I am the owner of a home based child care center so I spend a lot of time cooking for the younger set. I especially enjoy cooking for my husband and 1 year old son and hostessing parties in my home. I am a full time college student studying Early Childhood Education. My first love (before my husband and son) has always been golden retrievers. I have two goldens, Branden and Abbey (both of whom really, really, really like it when I cook bacon!)
My favorite things to cook
I enjoy cooking new recipes all the time. Some of my favorites are making homemade pizza and baking apple pies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is a young one, my son is just 1 so a little young to do much in the kitchen yet and I don't think my husband knows how to turn the oven on. I'm looking forward to my son getting a little older so he can help me make cookies and other treats, especially during the holidays.
My cooking triumphs
I always get raves about my sweet potato casserole (which my husband talks about year round) and my chocolate cake (which is always requested by my husband's co-workers whenever they have a carry in). My father in law says that I should open a pizzeria because my homemade pizza is the best there is!
My cooking tragedies
When I was maybe 1o years old or so, I attempted to make a Texas Sheet Cake by myself for the first time for a 4-H project. I didn't read the recipe right and used all of the butter it called for in the batter instead of dividing between the batter and icing. I tried baking the batter for over 3 hours to get it to set, but it remained soup-like. My family is still laughing about it some 21 years later.
