About this Cook
Traditional cooking, southern, is probably my favorite....nothing really fancy unless the need arises. I love fresh, local foods and tend to stay with that. I also tend to reach back and used the old tried and true recipes from My Mom & G'Mother's books...
My favorite things to cook
Anything my family loves, but their absolute favorite is anything they help to make....they love the traditional southern meals, everyone gathered at the table sharing stories, time and food.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Having My Mom, myself, and kids in the kitchen...we love to get together for big meals around a huge old farm house table, talk, reminisce...it's very familiar and very comfortable.
My cooking triumphs
Yay, I mastered my hubby's favorite dessert!!! Creme' Brulee !!! Although, he still loves the favorite standbys...Cobblers, fried pies, fruit crumbles....
My cooking tragedies
Wow......learning to use a smoker...that was years ago, but we wasted a lot of money and a lot of food!! The dogs got fatter!

Fried Apple Pies
I've made these more times than I'd care to count now...this is almost "identical" to our family recipe, with the exception of...I use cold butter in place of shortening and add just a pinch more salt to the dough. The salty taste with the puncy cinnamon of the apples is wonderful. We also use chunky applesauce & sometimes the home-made apple brandy butter we have on hand as the filling with a few choped pecans for an extra special surprise!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies
My whole family loves these cookies. I added a cup of re-hydrated golden raisins as well as just a pinch more cinnamon. They are easy, fun to bake with the children and get wonderful reviews no matter where we take them! Thanks for sharing a great recipe!

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan
We love this recipe, as we love Tilapia! I made the following adjustments and thus far we've stuck with the altered version. I sub'd the celery salt w/celery seed, cut back to just under 1/4 cup butter, used real parm, freshly grated and added 1/4 tsp. adobe from the chipotle' can! The family loves this version and it pairs well with anything! It also makes a wonderful sammy w/cilantro mayo...YUM!! :)..
