About this Cook
I'm wife to a wonderful hubby and mom to 3 beautiful young children. I love to cook and do so as often as I can. I like to try new things from this site, and usually try at least one new dish a week.
My favorite things to cook
Easy pasta dishes. Funky vegetarian bean dishes. Anything flavorful and healthy. Anything flavorful and indulgent. Mexican. Anything with avocado in it. Guacamole. Anything I can serve Guacomole with. :) Summer grilling. Winter soups. Sometimes homemade bread.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom always makes caramel rolls on Christmas morning. (Except last year when the dough didn't rise and we didn't have them! The horror!)
My cooking triumphs
The chicken pot pie that made Marie Calendar herself jealous. Learning to make London Broil almost as good as my dad.
My cooking tragedies
The super-healthy nutty-crunchy bulgur casserole that went straight in the garbage can. The batches of cookies that I cook too long and are hard as a rock. (about 80% of the batches I bake succomb to this tradgedy - which is why cookie making is my husband's job!)

Broccoli Cheese Soup
I wish I had followed the directions... I doubled the cheese as many suggested, and it was really salty and had a strong processed cheese flavor. I'm glad I doubled the broccoli, but next time I will use only 1lb. of the cheese.

Sweet Restaurant Slaw
Very easy, impressive recipe. SO much better than bottled slaw dressing, and less expensive too... my standard from now on. I did cut the sugar a bit.

Chicken Garlic Pizza
This pizza was delightful. With my changes, I thought it was amazing. In a pinch, refrigerated dough is fabulous. I wouldn't put it on a recipe, though... it is much better with homemade crust. Instead of boiling the chicken, I sprinkled it with garlic salt and cooked it in a little bit of oil in a pan on the stove. This browned it and gave it a nice color and flavor that would have been missing otherwise. I used homegrown tomatoes that were very juicy... I think this helped the pizza not be too dry, although doubling the sauce would do the trick, too... I used fresh basil in the herb butter and it was amazing. I also subbed fresh mozzarella for the ricotta. I added some greens to the top before baking. We had swiss chard, so that's what I threw on there but any green would work. YUMMO! Thanks for the inventive pizza idea.
