About this Cook
Friends enjoy my cooking and baking. It keeps them out of the kitchen and keeps me doing what I enjoy. I have come up with many of my own recipes by trial and error. During the winter I like to bake and summer and fall I enjoy using fresh produce from the garden in my cooking.
My favorite things to cook
It is hard for me to say what things I like to cook the most. I see a recipe that sounds good, I make it. Some great recipes have been added to my recipe boxes and of coarse there are some that I would not make again.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I really try to keep my cooking and baking healthful. So when I look at recipes that sound good, there may have to be some changes made to bring the fat calories down if possible. If not they are not made often. I collect cookbooks and am constantly online for more recipes.
My cooking tragedies
About 30 years ago I invited guests over for a beef roast supper. Unfortunately, my pot roast really shrunk (and burned), so ended up pulling hot dogs out of the freezer. So much for showing off my culinary skills at that time.

Rhubarb Strawberry Jam
I lost my grandmother's recipe for this jam a long time ago. Fortunately, this looks to be the same as the one she made when I was younger. When my folks come back home to visit, I send this jam back with my dad. It brings back childhood memories for him also.

English Muffin Bread
Hard to mess up this recipe. Reminds me of when gramma or mom use to bake bread.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Nut Muffins
This is more like a 10 star recipe. As always, I try the recipe first as it is printed exactly. Even to the minutes to bake them. These were excellent. Everyone who tried them, wanted more. Moist cake with gooey chocolate chips. I used half Ghiradelli dark chocolate and half semi-sweet chocolate chips. Second time I made them, I omitted the chocolate chips, the almond and sugar on top and over baked. (I was watching tv at the same time and wasn't thinking what i was doing.) DON'T do this. You will be disappointed with a dry muffin. I may try the tip of adding a little raspberry jam to the center of these as I do believe the flavors would be great together.
