About this Cook
Retired medical professional. Cooking is a necessity that I consider a hobby else I wouldn't like to do it. Married 40 years, 6 children, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren. Proud grandmother of an American soldier.
My favorite things to cook
Everyday meat and potatoes meals for my family are the favorite things I like to cook. Husbands' military career took us to many parts of the country as well as in the Far East so there are a few regional and International foods I like to make.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The hard and fast cooking tradition that goes back generations in my family is that the Mother is the main cook and I like it that way. Our family almost always has a sit down supper together so we can share the day's experiences and enjoy each other's company.
My cooking triumphs
Deep Fried Turkey. I learned from a true Cajun how to do it and can hardly wait for Thanksgiving or Christmas to show off again.
My cooking tragedies
For 30 years I burned every pot of dry beans that I tried to cook. Once I finally got them cooked to a delicious, tender and tasty finish only to burn then when I heated them up for supper. Then I discovered how to cook beans in a crockpot! Haven't burnt a bean since.

Best Ever Brisket
I have cooked many briskets in my life but never had one turn out as delicious and fall-apart tender as this one. Briskets are hard to find in Southeastern Tennessee...when I ask a butcher, they always show me a Corned Beef Brisket. So when I found a 6# flat beef brisket a few weeks ago, I snatched it up and put it in the freezer for a special occasion dinner. Then along came this recipe and Easter dinner at the same time so I made the brisket exactly as the recipe called for, except I didn't allow for the extra 2# pounds of my brisket. So there was way too much sauce for the too-small roasting pan which made a big mess in my oven. The brisket was so juicy it didn't need the added beef broth. All that said, this was the most delicious brisket ever. Everyone in my large family was raving about it!! There is only enough leftover (I had to hide it) for some BBQ sandwiches tonight. This is the only way I will ever cook brisket again. By the way, this is my first review...I was never moved by a recipe to write one before.
