About this Cook
I'm a mom to a 2 year old and a baby, so I do a lot of experimental and fun cooking. I grew up learning to cook from my mom and my grandma and have been putting my own personal touch on it since moving out on my own. Over the past few years I think I have become pretty good, or at least that's what my friends tell me!
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake and try out new desserts. Cookies are definitely one of my favorites. I also really enjoy trying new dishes from other cultures, such as Mexican or Italian. And I love to experiment with new things on the grill when the weather is warm. I'm also a huge fan of slow cookers and am always trying to make up new recipes to use during the winter. Being a wife and a mom, I also take great interest in healthy cooking. I want to provide my family with delicious meals that are also good for them. I try to my hardest to only use fresh, locally grown organic produce or to grow things myself in the garden.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mom and I have always baked and decorated sugar cookies for Christmas. It's something I really enjoy doing and I hope to some day pass down the tradition to my son and daughter. My family also has a tradition of doing a fish fry (walleye) every summer. It's the one food my dad cooks and he is amazing at it!
My cooking triumphs
So far, my biggest cooking achievement has been the three-demensional flip-flop cake I made for my daughter's first birthday. A lot of practice and patience went into that frosting!
My cooking tragedies
We moved to Colorado from Nebraksa a little over two years ago, and the change in altitude definitely caused a few cooking tragedies. No one warned me you had to adjust your recipes when you bake!

Groovy Green Smoothie
GREAT recipe! This was very tasty and my 2-year-old loves to drink one for breakfast. I took the advice of another reviewer and used 100% apple juice instead of an apple. This makes the smoothie a lot smoother and easy for a little one to drink out of a straw.

Peanut Butter Bars I
Delicious bars, although they didn't have a lot of peanut butter taste. I only used one cup of sugar and then next time I make them I think I'll skip the sugar completely and add more peanut butter. I also used a 9X9 pan so that my bars were thicker.
