Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
We have been using this recipe for about 2 yrs now and I can't keep enough made up. We love it because it has less salt, more flavor and NO MSG, so no one gets headaches like we used to with the packaged seasoning. Thank you for putting this on the site!!!

Melissa's Turkey Meatloaf

Reviewed: Jul. 21, 2009
No one in my family enjoyed this. We all thought it was "too turkey flavored" I've made turkey meatloaf before and the spices/seasonings were so well done that it didn't have the non-beef flavor at all. Guess this was not the recipe I made in the past. Will keep searching, but will not make this one again. half the loaf is still in the fridge and hating to waste food, I am trying to decide how to disguise it...maybe crumbled in a taco soup or chopped up in a spaghetti dish. Not sure what we are missing here, as everyone else has rated it higher.

Banana Cake Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 7, 2009
Nice way to use up overripe bananas and not too sugary tasting. Drizzling the icing over the cookie gave it just the right amount of sweetness. Kept well and travelled without breaking or getting crumbly...Really was like a little cake!

Fast Chicken Divan

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2008
Quick & Easy. Satisfying on a cold winter night and Kids loved it. Consider putting left over rice in with the soup mixture. It will be more filling...or serve the divan over cooked rice. We added just a sprinkle of curry powder to add a little more flavor to the casserole. We also subbed the 1 c of mayo with 1/2 c sour cream and 1/2 c milk to cut down on the calories and the tanginess of mayo. All was great!

Shredded Beef for Tacos

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
My beef didn't shred well, but the flavor was good and different than what I usually do for tacos. This had a little more zip than the usu. ground beef and chili option. I wasn't sure what was meant by spicy tomato sauce...so I used a can of enchilada sauce and rotel tomatoes. Was good. Family loved it and it made many, many meals (lunch & dinner over 3 days) for my family of four!

Shepherd's Pie VI

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2008
Not as filling as I expected. Think adding sliced mushrooms would be good. Kids LOVED it. Worcestire sauce is key. Didn't use gravy packet, but added tsp. of boullion granules and some hot water after the flour and it made a nice gravy.

Prosciutto Wrapped Asparagus

Reviewed: Jul. 11, 2008
Nice change to eating steamed asparagus. I didn't have cream cheese on hand, so used a parmesan ranch dip spread instead. It was great! So easy to make. I chilled them after cooking and took them tent camping with us...Nice elegant appetizer while we were waiting for the burgers to cook!

Chunky Cucumber Salsa

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2008
I liked this. It was fresh and a unique blend of flavors. My kids and husband thought it was a little odd, but I appreciated it and wasn't disappointed that I had the whole bowl to myself for a few days. Will make this again.

Beef Potpie

Reviewed: Apr. 16, 2008
We like chicken pot pie better. Used refrigerated pie crust and it didn't quite cook as expected. Next time will try own homemade crust or use biscuit mix as in recipe. Great for leftover beef and for a quick meal on sports nights and when it's cold out.

All-Star Apple Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2007
I made this recipe because I was short on time. It went together easily. I thought 1/4 tsp cinnamon would not be enough, but it was just right. The toppings flavors all work together well, none overpowering the other. Delightful taste...My husband who favors his mother's apple pie over all other desserts was impressed by this and my kids asked for seconds. I used whole wheat flour for 1/2 the flour and it was great. Will make this again! So fast and easy and tasty!

Marinated Flank Steak

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2007
This was perfect! My kids usually complain about beef being too hard to chew....they asked for 2nds and 3rds on this. It was pink in the middle like I like, but cooked thru on the ends like they like. Our leftovers are going in tortillas tonight!

Ham and Cheese Bowties

Reviewed: Jan. 18, 2007
This was easy to make & family and guests had 2nds. I added leftover chopped spinach & followed the suggestions for adding cayenne and the panko bread crumbs and doubled the recipe. It disappeared. Agree that the sauce would be good for Au Gratin dishes. I made a 2nd dish for my lactose intolerant daughter with her lactaid milk and goat cheese. Still yummy! It's a keeper.

Black Bean Chili

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2006
We love this recipe because it has a chicken broth base versus tomato base. I leave out the mushrooms and on occassion will add left over chicken meat. Everyone asks for the recipe and it is always a hit! I usually double the ingredients as it disappears all too quickly!

Cheapskate Stew

This is actually better on day 2. I expected more flavor after all the great reviews. Kids and husband loved it and polished off the leftovers. Very fresh alternative.

Super Sausage Gravy

Reviewed: Oct. 11, 2006
My family loved it. I was able to substitute lactose free milk in the recipe, & although it made it sweeter, it was still delicious and there were no leftovers! So easy and a nice change from eggs or pancakes on those cold mornings.

Slow Cooker Cranberry Roast

Reviewed: May 9, 2006
This couldn't be easier or tastier. I used pork roast and there was plenty of liquid as it cooked. Paired it with mashed potatoes and green salad, but next time may serve broccoli or another green vegetable with it to balance the sweetness of the sauce. Whole family enjoyed it--Kids and adults. Easy menu for days when running kids to sporting events.
