About this Cook
I love to cook and try new recipes. My mother in law also has me addicted to collecting cookbooks!
My favorite things to cook
I especially love to bake, especially cakes & cookies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Definitely Christmas cookie baking....a tradition that started with my grandmothers when I was about 8 years old. Ever since I was about 12 years old, I've been known as the baker in the family. My family definitely looks forward to Christmas cookie time! Each year I try to make at least one new cookie recipe to keep things interesting.
My cooking triumphs
I'd have to say my first attempt at Thanksgiving dinner was an absolute success and I was quite proud of myself!
My cooking tragedies
Once when I tried to make a lowfat recipe for Beef Stroganoff....it was HORRIBLE! My husband and I still giggle about that one, but he is most understanding about being my guinea pig for new recipes.

Tater Tot Bake
Good comfort food & so easy to whip up. I used cream of chicken soup, because that's what I had on hand. Browned ground beef with onion, then added soup & milk to the skillet to combine. Threw in a couple handfuls of frozen corn and spread that in the baking dish and topped with the tots. Baked 40 minutes, then sprinkled cheese on top of tots and broiled for a minute or so. Goooood!

Broccoli Cheese Soup V
I would give it 3.5 on a 5 point scale. I used half Velveeta & half sharp cheddar, but to me the Velveeta flavor was still overwhelming. Might try again using all cheddar.

Quick Sunshine Cake
Good but not great. Like other reviewers, I felt the flavor of the cake was too mild...it didn't taste any different to me than a plain yellow cake. The frosting is what really makes the cake, I think. I did take some previous suggestions and use an 8 oz. cool whip instead of the larger, and I'm so glad.....16 oz. would have been WAY too much for a 9 x 13" cake. I think I will try this again and add some orange extract to the cake mix and see how that turns out.
