Berry Trifle

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2012
This is good and had potential as is. But I brought it to WOW with a few changes. First off, mixing the pudding mix with condensed milk makes for a grainy custard. So that being said, I made vanilla pudding per the box instructions, using 1 c milk and 1 cup condensed milk. Then I used all fresh raspberries and bought a butter pound cake from the store. I cubed the cake all up and divided the raspberries and started layering, alternating between the pudding, berries and pound cake and sprinkled 2 TBS of the praline liquor over each layer. Topped with whipped cream and sprinkled semi-sweet chocolate curls over the top. Voila! it was beautiful and tasted wonderful!

White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2011
This was a bit too sweet for us. I prefer a more traditional cheesecake with the sour cream topping, etc. It was good, but not the best. I think the white chocolate is a bit too much. No one at my dinner really ate a lot of it, or commented on it, and that's a sheer sign something's up! So I ended up making another cheesecake using my traditional recipe with the sour cream topping. I shaved white chocolate curls over the top and made a fresh raspberry topping. it was outstanding and everyone ate it up!

Original Chex® Party Mix

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2011
Been making Chex mix for years during the holidays. It's a great snack for everyone. I also leave out the wheat chex, don't care for them and often add parmesan twists or other type crackers, etc. Lots of options you can add/omit with this recipe. Also, I always bake mine in the oven, it's so much better that way. I don't see how the micro way could taste good at all or come out crispy like it should be. Double or even triple the seasoning/butter! as is it comes out way too bland! I also add a touch of hot sauce and cayenne pepper!

Pecan Pie Bars I

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2011
These are good. I'm not a big fan of pecan pie but these bars are soo tasty. I couldn't stop eating them. I am making these instead of pecan pie for thanksgiving, along with a pumpkin cheesecake. I added a bit of Bourbon to the filling. YUM

Chocolate Mint Dessert Brownies

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2011
I love mint and chocolate together. My MIL made these one christmas and I fell in love with them. I couldn't stop eating them. I searched for the recipe and found it here. These are SO good. I made brownies out of Trader Joe's truffle brownie mix and used Creme De Menthe. Outstanding and easy to make. My local liquor wharehouse had 2 kinds of Creme De Menthe, one was clear, the other tinted green. So I bought the green, of course. But for christmas I plan on buying a bottle of clear too and putting red food coloring in one frosting and using the green for the other. Only thing I would change is add more Creme de Menthe, as is it's very very subtle mint flavoring and all I could really taste was the butter. I prefer a more mint flavor, so I added more creme de menthe. Next time I will use less butter and more creme de menthe.

Gourmet Sweet Potato Classic

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2011
Really tasty but sweet. Almost more like a dessert then a side dish. I added a bit of Makers Mark bourbon to the mix. Great along side my herbed crusted pork roast and sauteed brussel sprouts. Husband loved it!

Best Marinara Sauce Yet

Reviewed: Oct. 24, 2011
This is a good basic recipe. I add a touch of sugar to my sauce to tone down the acidity from the tomatoes. I also added more garlic, used red wine instead of white and a touch of garlic salt. Left out the onions because my husband isnt a big fan of them. It was tasty. Next time when I have more time I will add fresh basil, and maybe top it off with meatballs.

Asian Orange Chicken

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2011
The sauce was really good but the flouring part and cooking times were just off. I didn't like the flavor at all of the flour coating and it was too time consuming for such mediocre results. Plus it took my chicken more time to cook then the alotted time it states in the recipe. Next time I will make the sauce and prepare my chicken some other way.

Kalua Pig in a Slow Cooker

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2011
Made this as a trial run recipe for my sister's upcoming luau themed birthday party. If you're going to make this, make sure you have LOTS of time to cook it. I put it on at 5pm and it was done the next day at 8am. I had my husband taste it and he said while it was good, it was a wee bland. Plus it doesn't have that flavor an authentic Kalua pork has, from Hawaii. If you've actually had Hawaiian Kalua pork, cooked in the ground, this recipe isn't even close in flavor. Either way, it was good but for the looong cooking time I don't know if it's really worth it. It makes a ton, which is good. We put Pepper Plant pepper sauce on some of it and made tacos. The other 1/2 I topped with a homemade pineapple based BBQ sauce and making pulled pork sandwiches.

Made these as a "trial run" recipe for my sister's luau themed 50th birthday party in a week. They were fantastic. My husband loved them. I served a thai sweet chili sauce for dipping and they were sooooo good. I will definitely be serving these at her party!

Caribbean Rum Punch

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2011
I am looking for drink recipes to serve at my sister's 50th "beach theme" birthday party. I saw this and whipped one up as a trial drink to try it out. Very tasty! but I added a pineapple/banana juice mix to it instead of orange juice and used Malibu rum. I also tried coconut/banana juice and OMG! it was even better! lots of variations you can use on this drink!

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: May 10, 2011
This was good. I added 1 cup of sweetened flaked coconut, 1 cup of chopped pecans and 1 cup of drained crushed pineapple to the batter. Cut the shredded carrot down to 2 1/2 cups. Next time I will cut the powdered sugar in the frosting down to 3 cups from 4. It's a bit too sweet, and this is coming from a house of sweet tooths. I think without these modifications it would be good, but with the added ingredients it's over the top yummy!

Super duper good. I used dried cherries and blueberries and lightly sprinkled coarse cut sugar over them before baking. Served with lemon curd, mascarpone and devonshire cream on the side and serve them at my brunch. Everyone loved them! Very tasty!

Yummy! I made these for appetizers a few hours before a BBQ dinner I was making. Served this along with grilled artichokes, garlic mayo aioli and lots of wine! Everyone was very happy before dinner and kept raving on the bruschetta!

Irish Cream Bundt Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
I love the infamous Bacardi rum cake. I found this recipe and everything is basically the same as the rum cake recipe, so I thought it's gotta be good! I followed the recipe to a T and honestly the cake was just okay. My husband liked it but I thought it was too rich and too much glaze. I will stick to my rum cake recipe.

Pineapple Upside-Down Cake VII

Reviewed: Apr. 18, 2011
First off let me say that my southern born & bred gramma wouldn't be too happy if she knew I was using this recipe instead of her own. She would be proud tho that this recipe called for a cast iron pan. The southern way to make this cake is in a cast iron pan, just like my gramma made hers. Secondly, this is a FABULOUS pineapple upside down cake. SO good and moist and sorry gramma, SO easy to make! I still use my gramma's recipe but when time is an issue, I use this recipe. I used a yellow cake mix! came out beautiful!

Clark's Quiche

Very good but makes a lot. Sometimes I freeze one or give it to my husband to take to work. I have omitted the spinach and parmesan before when I didn't have either one on hand, and it still comes out really tasty. I'm not a big fan of eggs either and I really enjoyed this recipe!

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

These were good but a bit too sweet for us. If I make them again, I will cut back on the sugar. They have a good flavor despite the sweetness but honestly, I don't think they are any better then Toll house!

Rhubarb Strawberry Crunch

Reviewed: Apr. 11, 2011
I'm giving 4 stars when I want to give 3. BUT since I made this recipe using ALL strawberries, I want to be fair. It had a pretty good flavor but the consistancy was unappealing. Almost like paste. Too thick for our liking. I will try this recipe again using strawberries and rhubarb next time.
