I grew up in a multi-cultural home. My mom is Korean and my step-dad is half Italian. So I grew up eating all kinds of cuisine.
I am happily married with two young sons and hope they will grow up with fond memories of what mom made in the kitchen. My oldest son loves to help in the kitchen. My youngest loves to help make a mess.
My favorite things to cook
I love to bake. Whether it's cookies, cakes, any type of dessert. I'm a sweets girl and I love to make them. I think I get this from my step-dad's mom. Gramma D. was a great baker and grew up in a family of great bakers and cooks. I think some of that rubbed off on me.
My favorite family cooking traditions
The two biggest cooking influences are my mom, who is the cook of cooks. And Gramma D. I know every person probably thinks their mother is the best cook. However, my mom has picked up the ability to master various ethnic foods, whether Korean, Italian or simple American dishes. And I love how my Korean family makes so much food...and must share it. Koreans are very generous and love to share their cuisine with others. I enjoy sitting around a table and having small side dishes here and there that everyone can try. We all use our chopsticks in the same bowls. No one cares. Also, Koreans cook to heal. They make seaweed soup for nursing mothers and pear juice for congestion.
As for my gramma D. She used to always make cookies, tarts and pizzels for Christmas. I carried on the cookie-baking, but don't ask me to make a pizzel.
My cooking triumphs
Figuring out to make a beautiful and absolutely delicious cheesecake. The task was to make it without the top cracking and when I achieved this, I was so thrilled.
My cooking tragedies
Too numerous to mention.
