I am a Customer Service Representative at a bank in Indiana and I just moved to the Northwest corner of Indiana, termed by most folks here as "Illiana". I am married to a fabulous man that makes me so happy and gets me irritated too, I love him all the same. I enjoy reading, hanging out with family and friends, being my goofy self, entertaining guests, cooking, trying new things (both food wise and sport wise). I live for working out and am an avid sports fan. Ok, there's more to me than this, but there's a max. word count.
My favorite things to cook
My husband's favorite dishes and mine: homemade chicken fingers with dipping sauce and sweet potato fries, beer can chicken, roasting pork loins, cobb salads, roasting vegetables, MEXICAN! We LOVE GRILLING out any meat (especially steak). Chris and I come up with our own recipes too with what we have in our kitchen. Our basil pork chops are delicious...thanks to Bobby Flay for the base recipe that we went off of :).
My favorite family cooking traditions
The Baker family mac n cheese that is made in the slow cooker, no recipe, you just know what to put in and how much by the look/feel. Family secret for years, takes the better part of the day to make, and worth it because it's far superior to any mac n cheese you make on the stove or in the oven. My Grammie's meatloaf, potato salad, deviled eggs, and homemade noodles. Chris and I are creating our own traditions now trash can turkey for Thanksgiving, Baker Chicken and noodles for Christmas and roasted pork loin at Easter.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking dinners that Chris calls up his Mom and brags to her about it. Then she e-mails me and asks for the recipe. She's one of the best cooks I know, so it's huge triumph when this occurs.
My cooking tragedies
First time making beer can chicken, I made the chicken exactly according to the recipe and cooked it in the time I was supposed to and when I cut into it, it was still raw!!! I had had a 5 pound chicken when it called for a 2 pound chicken (where the heck do you find 2 pound chickens!). Anyway, so Chris went and got chinese, we finished roasting the chicken and just made chicken salad out of it.
