Chicken and Fresh Tomato Slow Cooker Stew

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2009
Very good! I used 1 can of tomato sauce and a quart jar of our own tomato sauce with tomato chunks. I added a bag of frozen Italian veggies. My husband and the kids loved it. And it made a really big batch. Thank you!

PHILLY Chicken Alfredo Pesto Pasta

Reviewed: May 26, 2009
I made a few tweaks. I used olive oil for the chicken and I had a sun dried tomato and garlic pesto mix that I cooked the chicken in. I added onions to that. I only used 1 3/4c cup milk and added 1/4c sherry. Then instead of parmesan cheese I used 1/2c ahredded Italian cheese blend. My family loved it!

Hamburger Casserole

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2009
I amde this last night as I had all the ingredients on hand. I tweaked it a bit. I substituted Lipton's Onion soup mix for the beef boullion and added garlic and worchestershire sauce and Djion mustard as others suggested. I also threw in some carrots. A note, I did not brown the hamburger first, I just threw it in raw, as the recipe did not specify to brown it ahead of time. I think this gave it more moisture. It was a very hearty, quick meal and we will make it again. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Reuben Dip

The only changes I made were to double the dressing as others have suggested and I added a squirt of mayonaise and some caraway seed. I have made this several times now and everyone loves it! Thank you!!!!!

Golden Rum Cake

Reviewed: Nov. 22, 2008
I made this exactly as written with one minor substitution. I used coconut rum. Delicious! It was so easy that I made several to sell at a bake sale. They went quickly and the next week, I had all three "buyers" ask me for the recipe. Thank you! UPDATE: I have made this several times since to give as gifts and have tweaked it a bit, based on other reviewer's comments. I used milk instead of the water and I boiled my rum in the glaze mix. And yesterday I tried it with a chocolate cake mix, chocolate pudding, coffee instead of the water in both the cake mix and the glaze, and Kahula, which was AWESOME!!! I might try Irish Cream sometime as well. Thanks again!

Sherry Sour Cream Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2008
This was a terrific starter recipe! I added the following "tweaks". I assembled this to cook in my slow cooker. I sprinkled the frozen whole chicken breasts with lemon pepper and Rosemary. I covered them with swiss cheese. Then I sauteed some onion, celery and garlic cloves in butter. I mixed up the sour cream and sherry (using extra sherry) and added the Rosemary and Thyme. I also added basil and chives from previous members tips. I stirred in the sauteed onions, garlic and celery. Then I poured the whole thing over the chicken breast and cooked on low for 6-7 hours. Served over Penne pasta. Awesome! Thank you so much for providing a recipe that is easy to tailor to the individual family!

Olive Cheese Melts

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I made these for our open house. I used green olives instead of black and skipped the salt. Thank you for a terrific recipe! Update: I made these a second time. I used the green olives as I had before, skipped the salt again and tried it with cream cheese because I was out of mayo. Served it on marble rye bread. They were even better!

Artichoke & Spinach Dip Restaurant Style

Reviewed: Nov. 30, 2007
I made this for our open house. I added some garlic cloves, fresh ground pepper and some basil and a dash of lemon juice. I marinated my artichoke hearts in a touch of olive oil and garlic and basil. I also added about 1/2c sour cream and blended my cheese into the dip. Yummy!!!!! Thanks for the recipe!

Chocolate Bourbon Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2007
Everyone raved about this. I took others advice and sprinkled the chocolate chips on the bottom instead of melting them in the filling. I wish I hadn't. While everyone liked them, I personally feel they would have tasted better blended more with the filling. I will defintely make this again, and when I do, I will make the recipe exactly as written. Thank you for a great recipe! UPDATE: I made this again this year exactly as written, blending in the chocolate chips. It had a much better texture and everyone said it was even better than last year. Thank you for a great recipe!

Chewy Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yummy! I tweaked it just a bit. Instead of 2T water, I added Irish Cream instead. It gave it just a hint of complementary flavor. And I baked them in a jellyroll pan instead of individual cookies. My family has eaten half the pan already and they aren't cool yet. Thanks for a great recipe!

Neiman Marcus Cake II

The only addition I made was to add 1 tsp vanilla each to the cake layer and the topping layer. This cake is perfect as is. Makes a perfect potluck cake. My husband and kids told me I could make this whenever I wanted.

Chicken Fried Steak III

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2007
I did as others suggested and added all the spices to the flour mixture and cut out the salt. The flavor was good, according to my southern-born husband! Thanks! However, I will not follow the recipe next time and add all the leftover flour to the gravy mix. I had a gloppy mess. Which was probably my own fault, as I should have added it more gradually. Anyway, I wound up just whipping up a batch of my own country gravy. But overall the recipe was very good. Thank you!!!

Our family really liked this. The only things I changed was to use extra sage in with the onions and celery, and I used polish kielbassa instead of hotdogs. We used lots of mustard and everyone loved it! Thanks!

I made a few changes. I used penne pasta, as we really like it. I used my husband's homemade tomato sauce that has onion, green pepper and garlic in it and doubled the amount called for. I used Italian sausage and seasoned it. I used Mozzarella cheese. The kids loved it. Thank you!

Easy Sausage Strata

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
I followed some of GrannyLooHoo's tips and omitted the salt, sauteed onions and green pepper with the sausage, and added dill weed. I also added garlic to the egg mixture. I had some leftover marble rye and some wheat bread, so that is what I used for the bread. It was yummy. The kids loved it as well. Thanks for a good recipe

Fast and Easy Hamburger Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2007
I changed this quite a bit, but the concept is great! I sliced 3 potatoes thinly, precooked them for a bit in the microwave and spread them on the bottom of a greased pan. I seasoned my hamburger with red basil, garlic, and lemon pepper and added the onions to it. I layered that on top of the potatoes. Then I put a layer of frozen mixed veggies. I subbed worchestershire sauce and sherry for the ketchup and I added sour cream instead of milk. Then I added the soup and cream cheese, along with more garlic, red basil and lemon pepper. I spread that over the other layers, added a thin layer of cheese, and then the biscuits. It was very good!! Thank you LuckySilver for giving me this recipe to play with!! My family loved it!

Mexican Chicken II

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2007
This was awesome with a few tweaks. I cut the soup down to one can. Added the sour cream to the mixture. I seasoned my chicken with the chili powder and garlic. Left out the salt. I added chopped onions and green pepper to the chicken while I was sauteeing it. I added a can of mild green chilis to the mixture as well. I did not add the chili powder and garlic to the mix, as it was well seasoned as it was. I added a cup of rice as well. After it was baked, we added hot sauce to taste to each individual serving. Very good! Thank you!
