Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
echoing what others have said, this recipe is WAY too sweet & is a bit grainy. i appreciate that it calls for all butter (as opposed to butter + shortening), but it just didn't do it for me.

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2009
this is an amazing recipe! followed some other's suggestions to use 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white sugar. also added some cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg. before baking, i sprinkled a little homemade streusel mix on top (brown sugar, quick oats, flour, butter). they turned out delicious, and they look great, too!

Simple Scones

perfect! super easy and quick to make and tastes great. i added the zest of 1 small orange and 1 cup craisins to make cranberry-orange scones. next time i'll try them as chocolate chip scones. can't wait!

Mexican Casserole

this recipe is more like a topping for nachos or the filling for burritos or tacos. the taste was good, just didn't do it for me as a casserole.

Chocolate Mint Dessert Brownies

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
WARNING: this recipe is time-consuming (although very delicious!) i only gave it 4 stars because i took another reviewer's advice and used a different brownie recipe (Brooke's Bombshell Brownies). the mint and chocolate layers from this recipe gave the brownie that extra "fancy" look and kicked a plain ol' brownie up a notch. next time i would reduce the amount of butter used for the chocolate topping to only 2 or 3 tablespoons--6 seemed like a bit much. other than that, this recipe was great!

Brooke's Best Bombshell Brownies

best brownie EVER. i will never try another brownie recipe again! these are moist, chewy, perfectly chocolatey. they are even moist and chewy right out of the fridge (they will keep longer that way, too.) AMAZING!!! p.s.-i didn't add the chocolate chips, and they were still perfect.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Apr. 27, 2009
these turned out amazing! decreased the brown sugar to 3/4 cup, and the white sugar to 1/3 cup. also used 1 cup of mini m&m's instead of chocolate chips. they are perfectly soft and chewy!

Ice Cream Sticky Buns

mmmmm mmmmm good! made just a few changes: used frozen dinner rolls cut into 1/3rds as suggested by another reviewer, and that worked out really well. also rolled the dough pieces in cinnamon/sugar before putting them in the pan. i used an 8x8 baking pan instead of a 9x13, it seemed like the dough fit better. overall, this recipe was great--will definitely make again!

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
wow! really, really great recipe! not overly peanut-buttery, but enough for my taste. i used 1/3 cup + 1/2 cup brown sugar and only 1/3 cup granulated sugar to make sure they came out extra moist and chewy, and that worked very well. they were moist and chewy for 3-4 days after baking!

Strawberry Glazed Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
this recipe is great! i even used fresh-picked strawberries from a local farm. the only thing i changed about this recipe was using a frozen deep-dish pie crust instead of the graham cracker crust. of course i baked the crust before adding the ingredients to it. the pie turned out GREAT. perfect amount of sweetness!

A-MAZE-ING!!!! i love this recipe and, more importantly, so did my boyfriend (who i was making it for). i followed the recipe exactly, and the texture is perfect--not dry or crumbly. the flavor is great and it's sweet, but not too sweet. i was given strict instructions (by my boyfriend) to "hang onto this recipe!"

Peanut Butter Cup Cookies II

yuuuuummmmm! my mom used to make these at christmastime, but hasn't in a couple years. i almost forgot all about them until i came across this recipe. i brought some of the cookies to work (at a bakery, no less) and had co-workers drooling and asking for the recipe. definitely a keeper!!

Impossible Buttermilk Pie

pretty "eggy", as others had said, and i even omitted one egg. also very, very sweet. i had high hopes for this recipe because of the mostly great reviews, but will probably just move on to another recipe.

Simple Turkey Chili

this was delicious! i made a couple small changes: chili beans instead of kidney, diced tomatoes instead of crushed, and added 1 can of corn. i also added half a packet of taco seasoning to the ground turkey for extra flavor. turned out great and will DEFINITELY make again!

Buttermilk Chess Pie

i was disappointed with this recipe, especially after all the great reviews. it was, as others said, pretty "eggy". i even tried 4 eggs instead of 5. the sugar was a bit much. probably will try a different recipe next time.

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 15, 2009
sorry, this cake lacks flavor for me. not sure what to do to give it the little something extra, but i think i'll just let it be and try another bundt cake recipe. on the plus side, the cake was very moist, but again, had much less flavor than i anticipated. a bit "blah".

Caramel Fudge Squares

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2009
i don't quite understand the negative reviews on this recipe--i made 1/2 a batch and baked it in an 8x8 pan, but other than that followed the recipe exactly. mine turned out pretty darn good! i've been searching for quite some time to find a recipe like this one (lots of sugar and not much flour, makes more soft, chewy, moist baked goodies!). i would like mine a bit thicker though, so maybe next time i'll make a whole batch, but still bake in the 8x8 pan. although i wouldn't go so far as to call them "fudge", they are deelish indeed!

Sugar-Coated Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
this recipes is similar to one for "breakfast muffins" that my mom has. her's has cinnamon and nutmeg added to the batter, so i added 1 tsp each of those two ingredients. also added 1 tsp of vanilla. i filled regular muffin cups 2/3rds full and only came up with 10 muffins, but they baked up nice and tall. very moist inside, and slightly crisp on top. the cinnamon/sugar on top is what makes them so perfectly sweet and delicious.

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Jan. 25, 2009
this is a really great chocolate chip cookie recipe. super easy and versatile--you can change the flavor of the cookie by replacing the vanilla pudding with another kind (chocolate, butterscotch, etc). i only used 1 cup of mini chocolate chips and that was plenty. crispy on the outside, moist and chewy on the inside. YUM!

Baked Potato Soup I

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2009
this recipes is pretty bland overall. i misread the recipe and added baking potatoes (russet), not pre-baked potatoes, so i had to cook the soup about 20 minutes longer to fully cook the potatoes. also sauteed yellow onion in the butter before adding flour, and added about a tsp of dried basil and a cup or so of shredded carrots. still lacking a lot of flavor, so probably will not make again.
