Snickerdoodles I

Reviewed: May 30, 2011
the only change i made was substituting butter for shortening. i flattened the dough slightly before baking, and they came out *perfect* after about 10 minutes. wonderful recipe!!!

Soft Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
hands-down one of the best cookie recipes i've found to date! they are the perfect mix of chewy on the inside & slightly crisp on the outside. i omitted most of the cinnamon & added butterscotch chips. as other reviewers said, there is no need to refrigerate the dough before baking, it is good to go right after mixing.

Homemade Chewy Granola Bars

Reviewed: Feb. 7, 2011
very simple & delicious granola bars! they are easy to tailor to your taste buds. you can pretty much add whatever fruit, nuts, spices, etc to the recipe that you'd like. i added flax seeds, toasted sunflower seeds, raisins & mini chocolate chips. next time i might omit a portion of the brown sugar, as these are pretty sweet.

Pumpkin Cheesecake in a Gingersnap Crust

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
this recipe was very simple & easy to make. i served it for dessert after xmas dinner, and the family loved it! i used the full amount of butter, and like others said, quite a bit baked out (place your cheesecake on a pizza or cookie sheet in the oven, and the pan will catch the melted butter). the dry ingredients in the crust do need the full amount of butter to mold properly to the bottom & sides of the pan. i used 2 packages of full-fat cream cheese & 1 package of fat-free, and it was delicious & creamy. make sure to let the cheesecake cool at room temp for the full 30 minutes (longer if you can) before putting it in the fridge. it will allow the cheesecake to settle slowly & prevent cracking. i will definitely be making this again!

Saltine Toffee Cookies

Reviewed: Feb. 2, 2010
this recipe is poorly written, but using a few helpful tips from reviewers i managed to make this delicious, can't-stop-eating-it treat. i used graham crackers (1/2 box) instead of saltines & it gave it a better flavor. the butter/brown sugar spread pretty thin, but was manageable. next time i would make a couple adjustments: use a smaller pan (maybe 9x13) & try using less butter. MMMMMM!!!

Magic Peanut Butter Middles

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2010
delicious! as other reviewers pointed out, they are a little time-intensive, but not enough to deter me from making them. i followed the recipe almost exactly--only used 1 1/4 c flour for the chocolate cookie part, and increased the filling to 1 cup each of powdered sugar & peanut butter. YUMMM

Quick and Almost-Professional Buttercream Icing

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2009
echoing what others have said, this recipe is WAY too sweet & is a bit grainy. i appreciate that it calls for all butter (as opposed to butter + shortening), but it just didn't do it for me.

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: Jul. 9, 2009
this is an amazing recipe! followed some other's suggestions to use 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/4 cup white sugar. also added some cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg. before baking, i sprinkled a little homemade streusel mix on top (brown sugar, quick oats, flour, butter). they turned out delicious, and they look great, too!

Simple Scones

perfect! super easy and quick to make and tastes great. i added the zest of 1 small orange and 1 cup craisins to make cranberry-orange scones. next time i'll try them as chocolate chip scones. can't wait!

Mexican Casserole

this recipe is more like a topping for nachos or the filling for burritos or tacos. the taste was good, just didn't do it for me as a casserole.

Chocolate Mint Dessert Brownies

Reviewed: May 25, 2009
WARNING: this recipe is time-consuming (although very delicious!) i only gave it 4 stars because i took another reviewer's advice and used a different brownie recipe (Brooke's Bombshell Brownies). the mint and chocolate layers from this recipe gave the brownie that extra "fancy" look and kicked a plain ol' brownie up a notch. next time i would reduce the amount of butter used for the chocolate topping to only 2 or 3 tablespoons--6 seemed like a bit much. other than that, this recipe was great!

best brownie EVER. i will never try another brownie recipe again! these are moist, chewy, perfectly chocolatey. they are even moist and chewy right out of the fridge (they will keep longer that way, too.) AMAZING!!! p.s.-i didn't add the chocolate chips, and they were still perfect.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

these turned out amazing! decreased the brown sugar to 3/4 cup, and the white sugar to 1/3 cup. also used 1 cup of mini m&m's instead of chocolate chips. they are perfectly soft and chewy!

Ice Cream Sticky Buns

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
mmmmm mmmmm good! made just a few changes: used frozen dinner rolls cut into 1/3rds as suggested by another reviewer, and that worked out really well. also rolled the dough pieces in cinnamon/sugar before putting them in the pan. i used an 8x8 baking pan instead of a 9x13, it seemed like the dough fit better. overall, this recipe was great--will definitely make again!

Chewy Peanut Butter Brownies

Reviewed: Apr. 26, 2009
wow! really, really great recipe! not overly peanut-buttery, but enough for my taste. i used 1/3 cup + 1/2 cup brown sugar and only 1/3 cup granulated sugar to make sure they came out extra moist and chewy, and that worked very well. they were moist and chewy for 3-4 days after baking!

Strawberry Glazed Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2009
this recipe is great! i even used fresh-picked strawberries from a local farm. the only thing i changed about this recipe was using a frozen deep-dish pie crust instead of the graham cracker crust. of course i baked the crust before adding the ingredients to it. the pie turned out GREAT. perfect amount of sweetness!

A-MAZE-ING!!!! i love this recipe and, more importantly, so did my boyfriend (who i was making it for). i followed the recipe exactly, and the texture is perfect--not dry or crumbly. the flavor is great and it's sweet, but not too sweet. i was given strict instructions (by my boyfriend) to "hang onto this recipe!"

yuuuuummmmm! my mom used to make these at christmastime, but hasn't in a couple years. i almost forgot all about them until i came across this recipe. i brought some of the cookies to work (at a bakery, no less) and had co-workers drooling and asking for the recipe. definitely a keeper!!

pretty "eggy", as others had said, and i even omitted one egg. also very, very sweet. i had high hopes for this recipe because of the mostly great reviews, but will probably just move on to another recipe.

Simple Turkey Chili

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2009
this was delicious! i made a couple small changes: chili beans instead of kidney, diced tomatoes instead of crushed, and added 1 can of corn. i also added half a packet of taco seasoning to the ground turkey for extra flavor. turned out great and will DEFINITELY make again!
