Cinnamon Raisin Bread I
About this Cook
Me and my boys love to go out to eat. Since there's five of us, that's just not too practical. So, to compensate, I like to try lots of new recipes that I think my family will enjoy. This site is a wonderful resource. Instead of begging to go to this or that restaurant, my kids now ask me to make something, usually from Allrecipes!
My favorite things to cook
I recently learned to make a pasta dish that's just about identical to my favorite thing to order at Macaroni Grill. We all dig into that like there's no tomorrow! Homemade pizza, using Jay's Signature Pizza Crust, is on the menu a lot, so, really anything my family likes are my favorite things to cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up, my mom used to make cinnamon rolls, especially for Christmas morning. She also made Molasses Crinkles and peanut brittle pretty much every year. In keeping with that tradition, I now make her rolls and cookies but haven't stepped up to the candy.
My cooking triumphs
After many flops, my pie crust is pretty darn near perfect. Debbie's Cherry Pie is expected at Christmas gatherings without fail!
My cooking tragedies
Scraping failed attempts at pie crust into the trash are the tragedies that I remember best. There was also the time I volunteered to bring cinnamon rolls to a teacher appreciation breakfast: little rocks with icing. Ugh!

Chicken Stir-Fry
This was a great weeknight meal. It's ***** with the following tweaks: 1. After cutting up the chicken, don't waste a ziploc bag, just leave it on the cutting board while you prepare the other ingredients. 2. Save another step and use chicken broth instead of water & bouillon. In a small bowl, mix the broth, soy sauce & cornstarch together & set aside. 3. Mince a clove or two of garlic, grate a teaspoon of fresh ginger root & set aside with the other prepared veggies. 4. Refer to step 5 of the original recipe and proceed as directed. This recipe is a bit bland as written but can easily be revved up with more soy sauce, garlic, ginger, red pepper flakes, etc.. The next time I make this I might also add a dash of Kitchen Bouquet browning sauce.

Charleston Breakfast Casserole
I chose this recipe for a recent potluck breakfast we had at work. Following the advice of a reviewer, I decided to make 1-1/2 recipes for a 9x13 casserole. BEWARE: 40 minutes is NOT long enough for that much to get cooked thoroughly. Serving a runny egg casserole was a humbling experience to say the least. IF, and that's a big IF, I ever make this again, I will probably make the smaller recipe as written or maybe use ramekins.

Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff I
Had the stew meat and all other ingredients except golden muchroom soup so ended up baking this in a 325 degree oven for 3 - 4 hrs. Added extra water about halfway during the cooking time and again when I added sauteed mushrooms. Yummy!
