I'm the loving wife of my Science/Math-teacher husband "Sweety" and devoted full-time stay-at-home "Nonny" to my 20 pound orange & White tabby cat named Tommy. An RN since 1984, but no longer practicing nursing. I love to bake breads, rolls, cakes and the like. I guess I'm more of a baker than a cook, but I'd like to grow in the cooking realm. I do like to make one pot vegetarian dishes. There have been some great cooks in our family from my great-grand-mother's biscuits (She used a barral of flour a week to feed her 13 children) to my Mom's potato salad and baked beans. As a result no one's skinny in our family! As a Seventh-day Adventist who observes Saturday as the Sabbath, I was raised to have especially nice meals for Friday nights (Sabbath begins at Sundown) and Sabbath Dinner (midday meal after church on Saturday) Having extra yummy food ready for the special hours of the Sabbath made warm memories. Cooking homemade meals for our faculty family kids (14 boarding academy out of 120 kids at Bass Memorial Academy)that they really seemed to love. It's hard to please both veg-heads and non-vegetarians at one meal, but I've done it several times this year! YAY!!! THE two worst tragedies that stand out in MY mind are 1) My first attempt at making a blackberry jam cake. I was about 10 and measured out nearly 11 cups of sugar before I started to realize that something was wrong. I was using a type-written recipe that called for 1 & 1/2 cups of sugar but was typed 11/2. The other and it WAS gross... Was when I tried to make stewed tomatoes and thought I remembered my mom and grandma thickening them with SOMETHING, and I thought it was cream of tartar. No, actually it was cornstarch. Liked to have NEVER have lived that mess down! HA!
