Banana Cream Pie I
Unfortunately, this pie didn't turn out very well for me. First, I used one of the reviewer's suggestion and made a vanilla wafer crust. I must have made it too thick or over-baked the crust (prob more so the latter) because we couldn't cut through it. In my opinion the pudding/filling was too vanilla-y tasting. I would have preferred banana pudding. Next time I would try to find banana extract and use that instead. Also, my pudding was on the thick side. A bit too thick for my preference. I also thought this was way too sweet. Obviously I did something wrong because I'm in the minority here! I was so disappointed because I LOVE banana cream pie. It's one of my favorite desserts. The BEST banana cream pie I ever had was at Angelo's bakery on 86th Street in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn. I was never allowed at any family parties unless I brought that pie with me, LOL! So sad that bakery is now closed... If I find banana extract, I will try this recipe again!
