My little protege'!
About this Cook
I live in the heart of Amish Country in OH and enjoy the wholesome methods of cooking. I enjoy gardening and canning the harvest. Our family depends on the garden for food but we enjoy doing it.
My favorite things to cook
Casseroles are popular but I love making new kinds of salads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I always make baklava and buckeyes during the holidays. This year I am going to carry on the tradition of making my grandmas Lemon Crackers
My cooking triumphs
Hopefully the Lemon Crackers will be my triumph. One of the ingredients is bakers amonia and I have never used it before.
My cooking tragedies
Nothing that I can think of that I wasn't ever expecting. Some things just don't turn out right!!

Thick Cut-Outs
This cookie is so mild. I use frosting that consists of 1 stick of real butter, 1 box of powdered sugar, 1 tsp. flavoring like lemon, vanilla or maple and then you add a little milk to get it to a nice spreadable consistancy. You can color it any desired color. I only bake the cookies for 7 minutes on parchment paper and they come out perfect every time! I have also just sprinkled them with colored sugar before baking and that turns out really nice too.

Coconut Macaroon Brownies
I made these brownies and I did not have unsweeted coconut so I used sweetened. I also ended up melting the butter completely which I believe helped make the batter more spreadable which some reviewers have complained about. We served the brownies with a mixture of blueberries and strawberries over the top with cool whip. I will definately make them again because they were relatively easy to make and very delicious!!
