I found out in Sept. 07 that I have Crohn's disease. The medicine combos my doc was putting me on weren't working so she wanted to switch me to meds that cost $3000/month. That wasn't an option so I looked online and found the Specific Carbohydrate Diet that addresses gut problems. I've been on the diet since Jan 5, 08 and have never felt better. If you are or someone you know has Crohn's, Ulcerative Colitis, Celiac, or chronic IBS and meds aren't working for them, check out www.breakingtheviciouscycle.info. (If you decide to do the diet, make sure you follow the introductory phase. www.pecanbread.com has a good guide for introducing new foods that really worked well for me.)
My favorite things to cook
Healthy food that keeps my guts happy.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I make desserts, my daughter is the dedicated licker...icing, the brownie batter bowl, etc.
My cooking triumphs
Learning to cook all over again with no lactose, gluten, disaccharides, sugar, and certain starches has been hard, but well worth it to have a happy gut.
My cooking tragedies
Pre - SCD - rice dishes, chicken and dumplings and lemon chicken. Since SCD - everything cooking wise is going well.
