I'm a 23 year old female college student, working on my undergraduate degree in Anthropology, with a minor in Biology. I live alone, but love to have friends over to cook for. I'm mostly Italian, so I love to feed people! Good food, family, friends, and good music, what more could you want?
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking Italian dishes. My grandfather is from Italy, and he used to teach me when I was younger. My mom taught me quick and easy every day meals, which come in handy while working a job and taking classes full time. I also love to bake desserts and breads.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas my mother, grandmother, and pretty much all my female relatives get together and bake desserts, as many as we can come up with. They're given as gifts, used for parties, and we have enough junk food to last us through New Years!
Another tradition in my family is to cook for someone on their birthday, whatever they want to eat. Whenever I go home to visit, my family cooks for me, as well.
My cooking triumphs
My sister loves my homemade pancakes.
My mother loves a pork and rice dish I created for her.
My stepfather likes a "weekend casserole" I make from specific leftovers.
The chunky vegetable marinara sauce I make from scratch is always popular with people and I get asked for jars of it frequently.
My cooking tragedies
When I first tried to bake bread from scratch, the dough refused to rise!
Once, when trying to make a tiara cake, the batter came out too dense and crumbly, so I ended up making a bowl truffle instead, and had to ask my mother to make the tiara cakes. I still haven't gotten the hang of those yet.
I cannot make a decent lasagna. Everyone in my family, including my siblings has their own lasagna recipe, but mine never come out. It's quite sad, really.
