About this Cook
I'm a true southern belle with an edge - I was raised on Thai food. So my comfort foods are turnip greens, corn bread, and coconut curries!
My favorite things to cook
Anything southern and anything Thai. I'm always the side dish cook. My husband is the entree cook.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My husbands family gathers once a year in the fall for Sweet Potato Biscuit Day, as we call it. That's when the maitriarches of the family bake a huge batch of sweet potato biscuits, 100+. The recipe is from their mother and has passed on down. We also accompany the biscuits with bacon, sausage, oranges, juices & coffee. Then we clean up and go into the small town to hit the antique stores.
My cooking triumphs
Blending my american southern heritage with my Thai raising.
My cooking tragedies
Even though I was raised in the south, I have never made a perfect biscuit. I'm still working on it.

Onion Rice
Great subtle taste. I picked this recipe because I had a huge tub of chopped vidalia onions I had to bring to a big hot dog cook out, but forgot them at home. I didn't have the green onion, which probably would have been better or maybe a combo of both types of onion. Anyway, this went well with the black-eyed peas and oven fried chicken, I made. I really thought the black pepper flavor and heat stood out and just loved it. Thanks, gapch126!

Ramen Cabbage Salad
I'll have to try this one again. I think I needed more dressing and I used a whole head of red cabbage instead of the green, which seemed to be too strong of a flavor. I needs to soak overnight I think too. Maybe next time it will turn out better. I'm not writing this one off yet.

Oven Fried Chicken III
Pleasantly surprised! This taste very close to Chic-Fil-A's flavor. Maybe mayo is their secret. Anyway, I had to do a few substitutions to keep from having to make a trip to the grocery store. My bread crumbs were expired, so I figured I'd crush up some rice crispies and they would be like panko crumbs and they were! Also, I didn't have thyme so I used a poultry spice mix and that did great and also onion powder instead of the garlic. I used boneless, skinless breast and cut them into strips. My family had nothing but praises. I WILL use this recipe again! YUM!
