I'm retired with my husband. I like to try all kinds of new foods and spices. I'm stuck in a meat and potatoes household. Every once in a while I make something different just for me. I like to try any kind of new dessert. But,I want to eat healthy.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook pretty much anything. I try new casserols. I love my crock-pot.
Shared cake recipes are always fun.
New combinations of foods and spices interest me a lot.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We have a Poor Mans Cake recipe that mother cut out of the paper in the 50's. Ralph Belamy's. An old movie star. It's a spice cake with raisins and things. Then there is the pot roast that my aunt said to always burn it twice to get the good gravy. It works. My family has dwindled to just a few. But, I still like to cook for six or eight people. So,I have a lot of left overs.
My cooking triumphs
I usually cook Thanksgiving dinner and it usually turns out fantastic. Turkey, side dishes, pies, great gravy, and more. My bread machine helps me make great dinner rolls and sweets.
My cooking tragedies
Just recently I made a cake from a new recipe. I made the mistake of putting the whole amount of butter, with cream cheese, over the bottom layer of cake. It boiled over in the oven. The bottom of the over was burning, and smoking. I had to open the oven and turn on fans and outside vents. I'm going to smell that disaster for days. I may not try that recipe again. Oh, I probably will.
