About this Cook
I am an interior designer who is blessed to be able to work from home. I am mommy to 2 sweet little girls (9 and 7)whose eating habits I would love to expand and wife to a wonderful husband who loves everything- a cooks dream! The girls have always helped me in the kitchen and I hope they will grow up to love preparing meals for their familes- sitting down to dinner every evening is a priority for us.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything for a big group of friends and family, chili for our fall kickoff party, anything fresh from the garden, and birthday cakes for my girls. I don't do desserts or much baking because I don't follow measurements or ingredients perfectly...I'm more of a "wing it" kind of cook, which usually turns out well. Usually.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up my favorite food memory was my Grandmother in her steaming kitchen preparing fresh noodles on Thanksgiving day. I loved watching her follow the exact same steps year after year, and being the taste tester was my favorite part of the day. My own family's favorite is our annual chili fest on the first day of September as we celebrate football season and fall's approach.
My cooking triumphs
Anytime dinner is on the table without the smoke alarm signaling the family is a triumph! I truly love to cook but am notorious for forgetting I am cooking...
My cooking tragedies
The fondue party we hosted for our playgroup parents dinner. We (the moms!) thought it would be fun to "fondue" the entire meal at the table- including meats in oil that cooled too quickly. The first problem was that the men could only eat one tiny 1/2 inch piece of meat at a time and were starving, so we decided to boil the oil on the stove and bring it to the table... well after it spilled (first on the stove creating tiny sparks- not flames!) and then on the wood floor and we were sliding around with boiling oil laughing hysterically our husbands (NOT laughing!) took all the meat to the grill and had a feast on the deck. It was truly hysterical and not too tragic since we didn't burn the house down!
