Kalbi (Korean BBQ Short Ribs)

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
These were awesome. Followed the recipe exactly. Used boneless ribs. The extra thing I did was after I marinaded the ribs for 36 hours, I poured it all in a saucepan - boiled it and then cooked it slow for an hour to reduce it to a thick sauce. Used that to glaze the ribs while they were on the grill. DELICIOUS!

Coconut and Chocolate Rice Crispies

Reviewed: Jan. 4, 2011
These were ok. Nothing spectacular. I LOVE coconut and was hoping for a strong coconut flavor but it gets lost in the chocolate. I won't make these again.

Orzo with Parmesan and Basil

Reviewed: Dec. 28, 2010
This sounded better than it was. I brought to a party and people liked it though. I was hoping it was going to better. Next time I may add some sauteed garlic and onions to give it a more complex flavor....and possibly some white wine in the broth. I need to experiment. Definitely don't make ahead of time. Serve when ready. It had a very nice creamy texture almost like risotto. It lost that when reheated.

Thai Chicken Curry in Coconut Milk

Loved this but with some changes. Added lots more curry paste, carrots and soy. Served over Thai rice noodles. It was good and it was HOT!

Whole Grain Sea Salt and Garlic Croutons

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
These were good. Needed some extra flavor so I added a 1/2 teaspoon of the Italian Dressing Mix from this site. This added just the right amount of kick. Also used good crusty bread and black pepper.

Merlot Dipping Sauce

Reviewed: Dec. 13, 2010
This was delicious. I used more soy than called for because it needed to be saltier. Also, next time, I would cut down on the honey a bit. When this cooks down the balsamic gets sweeter, so less honey is definitely needed.

Jalapeno Popper Spread

Reviewed: Jul. 12, 2010
This was excellent and so easy. The only changes I made was added 1 cup of parm to the dip and then more on top and baked in the oven for 1/2 hour. Made twice once with regular cream cheese and the 2nd time with Neufchatel. It has 1/3 the calories and fat and figured you wouldn't miss them with all the other goodies in the dip. Brought to a neighborhood party. A the end of the party, the dish looked it had been licked clean! Thank you. This was wonderful.

Dijon-Tarragon Cream Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2010
This is a 5 star recipe but with changes. Like several other reviews I dredged the chicken in flour. Deglazed pan with white wine, added chopped shallot and crushed garlic. It was delicious, simple, quick and you couldn't get better in a restaurant.

Spicy Crispy Beef

Reviewed: Feb. 19, 2010
This was excellent. I was a little skeptical about all the sugar and honey but it was delicious. Made a few minor changes. Used green onions, grated the ginger into the sauce, added hot pepper flakes to sauce, stir fried broccoli with the peppers and onions, and added cashews at end. Made a cornstarch slurry to thicken the sauce. I would have liked more sauce and probably because I added broccoli it needed more sauce. Will probably make 1 1/2 times more sauce next time. Thank you for this recipe. We live out boonies and have had no luck finding a decent Chinese restaurant. My fiance said this was 10 times better than any thing we ate in a Chinese restaurant here.

French Bread Rolls to Die For

Reviewed: Jan. 20, 2010
These rolls are to die for!!!!!! They were AWESOME! I'm not a baker and they turned out great. I followed the recipe with the following exceptions. I used all purpose flour. I didn't really use 4 cups of flour, just kept adding until it was not sticky anymore...probably 3 1/2 cups. Also brushed tops with egg wash. Since I ended up reading reviews AFTER I made the dough and reading that they needed more salt, I decided to sprinkle the top of the roll with a little kosher salt since I only use unsalted butter I thought it might need the extra salt. I also dropped the temperature to 375. They were incredible. I made an 4 course gourmet meal last night and these were star! I think next time I would make them a little smaller, possibly 20 instead of 16. Thanks for such a great recipe.

Dry Ranch Style Seasoning for Dip or Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2010
This was excellent! I made salad dressing with it. Followed recipe exactly except it needed more buttermilk as it was too thick. I usually make my own dressing with tends to be a savory vinegar and oil or a sweet vinegar, oil and honey variations. But I LOVE ranch dressing and was a little nervous about making it. I won't buy the bottled again. I'll just have to keep some buttermilk in my fridge at all times! I made mine 2 days ahead of time. I think this definitely helps marry the flavors.

Raspberry Coconut Layer Bars

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2010
These good but not great. I think a 9x13 pan is too big. The bars were very thin. I used blackberry jam which tasted good. I melted semi-sweet chocolate on the stove top and it was way too thick to drizzle so I tried thinning with cream. It was better but when I took the whisk to drizzle the chocolate it just fell on the top in clumps. I wish I would have read about the ziploc. Maybe that would have worked better.

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2009
This was very good. I used Halibut because that's what I had but its a mild fish like tilapia. Besides that I made a few other changes, I used garlic powder instead of onion powder (I typically don't like onion powder), I added a 1/4 cup of panko bread crumbs and added 1/8 tsp. of paprika. My fiance who says he doesn't like fish, liked this. Yummy.

Italian Cream Cake I

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2009
This was EXCELLENT. I made this for a Christmas Evening dinner party. Risky move, since I had never made it before. Everyone went nuts over it! The only thing I did was double the frosting recipe so I could frost the entire cake and decorated the top of the cake with toasted coconut. YUMMO! Thank you Chantal.

Chocolate Crinkles II

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2009
These were excellent. Moist and delicious. I scooped out a tray full and then put the dough back in the fridge to harden up again. It took a little bit longer since I made them in shifts but the dough is easier to work with when it is chilled.

Lemon Bars I

These were really yummy and easy to make. The only thing is I don't know how you can get 16 bars of of this receipe...unless they are really small. But you don't need a big bar because they are the perfect combination of sweet and tart.

Cajun Chicken Pasta

Reviewed: Nov. 15, 2009
This was excellent. I followed the recipe except didn't add mushrooms (don't like them), added a 1/8th teaspoon of cayenne to kick up the heat and used the juice of a 1/2 lemon to brighten it up a bit, a little extra salt and didn't use green onions, used a 1/2 sweet onion cut into strips.
