I'm a 55 y.o. mother of 2 and grandmother of one. I never really learned to cook when I was growing up, but marriage changed all that. I had to learn the hard way. Lots of mistakes along the way. Cookbooks were valuable to me back then. Then came the computer and Allrecipes, which is the only "cookbook" I need. When I need an old favorite or looking for something new, it's all right here.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to do is bake. I'm a home health care worker and take care of an elderly, diabetic gentleman. The other staff and his family say I'm the head baker. The are always looking forward to the days I work so they can taste the goodies I bake. Since the gentleman is a diabetic, I use Splenda instead of sugar and the recipes are always great.
My cooking triumphs
I guess my greatest feat was making homemade(sauce and all) lasagna for 50 people. It turned out perfect and was a great hit with everyone.
My cooking tragedies
My first homemade biscuits were a disaster. They came out hard, like rocks. This was in front of my new mother-in-law. Very embarrassing. We were living in Alabama at the time and my mother-in-law was one of those typical Southern cooks. She could make anything from scratch. Never used measuring cups or spoons but everything came out just perfect. Thank God, she took me under her wings and taught me alot about baking and cooking.
