Pushing 40 & about to have my first child. Have a fantastic husband (a darn good cook himself). Work at a refinery in a blue collar atmosphere, enjoy the challenging work & environment, but looking forward to a change. Finding life in a small town just divine. Have a big, farty dog and a small, growly cat. Love to cook & celebrate special occasions & entertain at home.
My favorite things to cook
Love the quick and simple things - find joy in their simplicity. But also love a good challenge. Not sure if I'm up to the "executive chef" level challenges, but would give almost anything a try. We love vegetables and eat at the very least 3 with every meal - always like to try new ideas with veggies.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Good old fashioned English trifle for dessert at Christmas. Pumpkin cheesecake at Halloween. Homemade burgers on the BBQ. Homemade mac&cheese with at least 3 cheeses.
My cooking triumphs
Once when I served an asian style marinated-then-baked salmon I had a guest tell me, "That's the best fish I've ever eaten...and I'm a Newfie"!
My cooking tragedies
A roasted chicken that wouldn't roast. Still can't figure it out...should have taken no more than 3 hours to cook itself into a succulent free range bird, but after 7 hours (and confirmation that the oven was working just fine) it still wasn't quite done. Don't think I'll ever figure out this one.
Burnt a couple of items because I got distracted with company.
