I have always had a great love and passion for cooking. Since I moved out of my parent's house, I have found an even greater love of cooking and baking. Also, as a child, I was extremely impatient. While baking every day with my grandmother as a little girl, I learned patience, which my boyfriend is extremely grateful for! :-)
My favorite things to cook
Anything that someone will eat. I hate to see all these fancy dishes in magazine and cookbooks, and realize that no one will probably end up eating the frou-frou dishes. My experience has been that people love the 'home-cooked' type of meals the best, not something you can only get at the most expensive restaurant in town.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family has always cooked and baked Jewish foods, such as brisket, farfalle, mandel bread, etc. Anything you can think of, someone made it! Now, my family tends to make big meals only on special occasions, but it does not make the food and times any less meaningful.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking a dinner party for 20 people at my parents' house when I 18. I put out the whole spread - appetizers, two main courses, side dishes, and four desserts - everything homemade!
My cooking tragedies
Too many to name... But one particular time I was baking an applie pie while vacationing in the Black Hills in Wyoming. I completed forgot to account for the altitude, and my pie looked more like a giant apple cookie. Instead of holding its shape and texture, it completed fell flat and compressed itself. But it tasted just like my usual apple pie, it just did not look like it. Those are the types of failures that allow me (and my family) to really appreciate the triumphs.
