About this Cook
My mother always made great home cooked meals for our family, and I hope to carry on the tradition. I especially like to cook really good, filling vegetarian meals. I am focusing on learning family friendly meals so that when I have children, I will be ready.
My favorite things to cook
Mostly, I like cooking vegetarian main dishes. I a finally starting to feel comfortable altering recipes and changing them in ways I think they would work. I am really excited about new and interesting flavors.
My favorite family cooking traditions
At thanksgiving, everyone in the family picks one part of the meal to cook and I always get to make the pies. They are the best part, after all.
My cooking triumphs
Finally knowing how to use every spice in my spice rack.
My cooking tragedies
I tried to make this tofu pie thing I found in a cookbook. I even cut the salt in half and it was still inedible (I found out later that the book had a misprint, confusing tablespoons with teaspoons), and the crust came out like cardboard. A total and complete failure. I think that that is my only major tragedy so far, but I am sure I will have more as I really start experimenting.

Peanut Butter Frosting
I only used 2 cups of sugar, but otherwise followed the recipe. This turned out really delicious and peanut buttery. We made chocolate cupcakes with this frosting on top and they tasted like peanut butter cups. Nummy.

Fresh Pear Crisp
We had a bag of pears dropped off at our house that needed to be used ASAP so I found this recipe. This was very good. I made a few changes based on my personal preferences. First I didn't peel the pears. I kept the skin on. I just like it better that way. I substituted butter for margarine (cause I don't like margarine and I LOVE butter) and allspice for cinnamon (because I am allergic to cinnamon). I also threw in some raisins because I just felt like it. It came out really nice.

Pasta with Blue Cheese and Walnuts
Pretty good, but I did make a few changes. I added salt and I mixed a little of the blue cheese and the walnut mixture in with the pasta so it melted a little and coated the pasta a bit. Then I served and sprinkled some blue cheese on top.
