I am a newlywed, just married October '07. Love to cook, love to eat which my hips don't thank me for. My hubby loves my Italian and Asian dishes, I love my Indian cooking but he won't touch a curry to save his life. I'm addicted to my bread machine and my Kitchen Aid, I think with them and a stove I can do anything!
My favorite things to cook
Curries, Lasagna, enchilada casserole, bread of any kind, Thai fish cakes, and roasts of all kinds
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is really into holiday meals. My mom started to teach me to cook as soon as I could hold a bowl and spoon together. Now we trade holidays at each others homes, and we've begun to try 1 new holiday recipe every year when the family is altogether so we can make new traditions.
My cooking triumphs
I created an enchilada pie recipe that is sooo easy but my entire family, (including my picky hubby!) can't get enough of it, and I've given it out to dozens of people. But my biggest triumph is my homemade spaghetti sauce and tomato soup which I make once a year from the ground on up. My hubby and his whole family can't get enough, they've even suggested I bottle and sell it. My secret? Throw in left over summer squash and zucchini for extra body, and really pack in the fresh herbs and garlic! And please, use fresh heirloom variety tomatoes, skin blanched off and seeds removed!
My cooking tragedies
Once I made a white sponge cake that was exactly that, a sponge. I dropped it on the floor and it actually bounced, and was so tough I could pick it up and cut it with scissors. It was so horribly fascinating that I played with it for hours seeing how it would stand up to abuse. I think I could've scrubbed the kitchen floor with it if I'd really wanted to!
