About this Cook
I am a mother of 3 little girls and a wife to my husband, a police officer. I work at my church part-time as a director of Children's Ministries. It is hard work and there is not much money but it is immensely gratifying. I wouldn't change a thing! God has been good to me.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook old-fashioned family family favorites like chicken and noodles. These are not necessarily "homestyle" or "southern." The kind of recipes you find when you look through your grandmother's recipe box. I also love making dessert of any kind. Chocolatey, fruity, pastry, anything. I love making sweets--especially for company!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Although my mom was a great cook, she wasn't much of a traditionalist. I began a tradition last year of making cookies and candies at Christmas and taking them to people in my neighborhood.
My cooking triumphs
Peanutbutter cookies for my husband that beat his grandma's recipe. Spaghetti and meatballs (from scratch) that, according to my mom (again, a great cook) were better than the Olive Garden's. I have a recipe for brownies that can't be beat and I'm pretty proud of my meatloaf too.
My cooking tragedies
I tried a "Thai" version of spaghetti noodles that included peanut butter. They were just awful! I've been working on making a good angel food cake for quite some time but so far I haven't had much luck. I end up throwing it away and then I have a big bowl of yolks and nothing to show for it!

Slow Cooker Chicken Stroganoff
Ok, this definitely gets 5 stars for ease of preparation, but only 4 for texture. It was a little too thick for us. I had to keep adding milk to get a "saucier" texture that we liked. I'm also not sure I like the tang of the cream cheese. I might cut that in half and substitute sour cream next time. Certainly worth putting on the regular rotation especially when you have young kids and are busy, busy, busy.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake
Soooo good!! I made it for a crowd and it was a HUGE hit. I'm not that experienced at making cheesecake but I followed the directions exactly and it came out completely smooth on top--absolutely perfect!! The only issue was that I used a water bath and the water seeped into the crust. After a day in the fridge the soggy crust firmed up a bit so it wasn't a huge loss but it would have been better without being water logged. Not sure if I want to attempt it again without a water bath since it came out so beautifully.

Pecan Pumpkin Dessert
Delicious! I followed the recipe exactly and was very happy with the results. Some people liked the crust best, some liked the frosting the best. This will probably be a regular fixture on the Thanksgiving table!
