About this Cook
I'm a mom to three great children of my own ages 12-17.
My favorite things to cook
I like to cook just about anything. I began checking out cookbooks from the library back in the eighties and would always have a stack of them by the bed for late-night reading. I like to try new things.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Thanksgiving I make the same meal, except that I can't always get persimmons to make the traditional "Nantz family persimmon pudding". Every Christmas I always make the exact same goodies, especially Finnish cupcakes. My mom only made them at Christmas and they taste like all my Christmas memories rolled up in one flavor.
My cooking triumphs
A Japanese friend gave me a Japanese cookbook and a sushi mat when they moved away and I figured out how to make sushi by looking at the pictures with her notes written in!
My cooking tragedies
I don't know how tragic it is, but when you cook for teenagers, someone always hates what you've labored over. I'm constantly compiling a mental list of likes and dislikes around the table!

Hummus Pizza
This was very good. The hummus puffed up a little which made it pretty, too.

Addictive Sweet Potato Burritos
Perhaps if I would have cooked up my own sweet potatoes and mashed them this would have tasted better. I love the sort of sweet/salty taste. I used canned sweet potatoes and mashed them. My 12 y/o vegetarian daughter ate them, but thought the sweet potato taste made them weird. It made so much that we only did half of the mix as burritos, and used the other half as dip for chips.

Fresh Blueberry Pie II
This was fantastic. I have used a Fanny Farmer recipe for years that used cornstarch, and sometimes it didn't always set-up. This was better, fresher and yummy! I was worried because there wasn't much liquid to "bring to a boil", but it worked.
