About this Cook
I am single, love to travel, love southern cooking. I remodeled my kitchen and it changed the way I feel about cooking. I like it alot more than I used to. Cooking for one person is not the greatest thing, so I makes soups, salad, and lots of quick things. I use a lot of olive oil, gorgonzola cheese, dried fruits, fresh produce, whole grains. I do have a sweet tooth so I rarely make sweet things because I eat them and cannot stop.
My favorite things to cook
I don't know why, but my kids and grandkids love my breakfasts. Its nothing special. I love to make pies, salads, soups. I like to grill meats and like to try recipes that seem out of my league. I shop at our local farmer's market.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother cooked very blandly so as an adult new tastes have been an adventure. She did make things I love (comfort foods) like baked custard, boiled custard, fried chicken, spoonbread, drop bisquits. In the summer we would shell peas and put up fresh produce for the winter. My mother would gather kids in the neighborhood and we would make taffy and popcorn balls, like a little factory. It was great fun. At Christmas, my parents made home made Egg Nog, the best fruitcake I have ever had, pralines and divinity. My grandaddy was the baker of pound cakes, spice cakes, Boston Cream pies.
My cooking triumphs
Anything I do not burn, drop on the floor or omit something from I consider a success.
My cooking tragedies
Let's see,I broiled a pizza once. Put gravy in the blender. Left the sugar out of a Boston Cream Pie I was serving to my new in-laws.

Pumpkin Cheesecake I
I liked this more than traditional pumpkin pie. You just cannot go wrong when you add cream cheese! I used a graham cracker crust and topped it with whipped cream. It was very good and everyone seemed to like the variation.

Rosemary Roasted Turkey
I used this reciped yesterday on a 20# turkey. I covered the turkey with foil for the first half of the cook time, then uncovered and got that gorgeous golden brown skin with the herbs all over it. The turkey was moist and flavorful. Lots of compliments. The house smelled wonderful. I will definately use this again and use it on a roasting hen (chicken) with perforated lemons in the cavity. This is a new favorite for poultry. Thanks for sharing.
