Very tasty, though a bit on the soupy side. I used a can of white kidneys and a can of navy beans because great northerns were not available. I also used two little green chillis since I didn't have jalepenos as well. I added a bit of cayenne pepper and will likely up the spices next time. I think adding another can of beans will make it a bit thicker give and give even more delicious leftovers. Great with cornbread!

Stove-Top Macaroni and Cheese

Great recipe, sauce was done by the time the noodles were cooked. I do recommend adding more cheese and some extra parmesan to thicken it up and I also added more pepper.

Southern Fried Cabbage

Surprisingly good! I've recently moved to a colder climate and since we like to eat things in season, I've been looking for good winter veg recipes. These big scary looking heads of cabbage aren't so bad after all!

Cheesy Chicken and Potato Casserole

Tasted great! Like most others, I did have a few changes. I had leftover pork roast rather than chicken and actually added a potato since our local Russets are smaller than supermarket ones. I topped mine with herbed bread crumbs and green onions and a scattering of extra cheese. I missed that I wasn't supposed to put the cheese in with everything else and just stirred it in. I just cooked it for the total alloted time and it worked out great. Do grease the pan though! My sides were very burnt. I also added some thinly sliced carrots and will add peas or beans as well next time.

Pumpkin Cheesecake Bars

Wonderful! It looks pretty soupy when you pour the batter in, but comes out wonderfully tender and moist. This is a keeper!

Crusty French Bread

Quite good although it did not rise as high as expected and it was a bit dense. I will try this next time with bread flour instead or add some wheat gluten instead of the all purpose this calls for. The two of us ate the whole loaf within half an hour of coming out of the oven though!

Red Cabbage and Apples

If you had told me a year or two ago that I would ever willingly cook a cabbage and *like* it I'd have looked at you as if you had antlers! It was very good though and I shall certainly be making it again. One note though, serves three? Three giant hungry vegetarians who were eating this as a main course?

Quite good, nicely spiced. I do recommend soaking the raisins at least while you stir the rest up, but perfect as written other than that little tip ;-)

Maple Apple Crisp

Delicious! This is my new Holy Grail apple crisp! The maple syrup adds a nice taste note, be sure to use a good quality dark one. I will be doubling the amount the topping next time since we are both crumb lovers

Beef Bourguignon II

Truly delicious! I used fresh local mushrooms and onions rather than those slimy canned things and doubled the number of both. This begs to be served with a nice crusty bread to sop up the wonderful broth.

Meatballs with Spaetzle

Now this is food that really schmecks! Wonderful recipe, the only change I made was to use half beef and half pork sausage since that is what I had on hand. The spaetzle was nicely tender and the sauce rich and creamy.

Great-Grandmother Steinbeck's Johnnycake (Cornbread)

Simply wonderful, no changes need. (Well I did sub yellow cornmeal since I don't have white, but I'm sure white would have been just as fabulous!) Serve warm with a drizzle of honey for the best dadgummed cornbread you've ever had.

No Fail Pie Crust II

Crust had good flavour but completely fell apart. I was able to make a crust by piecing bits of it together, but it would not have worked with a wet filling.
