My two Michaels
About this Cook
I am married to a fantastic man. I have a grandson who is 12 yrs. old. I worked for 28 yrs as a waitress and a bartender, now I work in a middle school cafeteria here in Chester--and love it. The kids are great.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing is baking! During Thanksgiving and Christmas I bake 50-75 cakes each year. It can get a little hectic, but I love it. I also make a lot of candy and cookies, what would the holidays be without them!!
My favorite family cooking traditions
My sister and I learned how to cook from our Mom. We also inherited her love of cook books, which were all dogeared and written in. My husband teases me about all my cookbooks and scraps of paper with recipes written on them.
My cooking triumphs
The first time I fixed Thanksgiving dinner, so my Mom could get a break after all those years of doing it herself, my Dad, who loved my Moms' cooking, said after dinner "good job Deb". I breathed a big sigh of relief. That was a long time ago, but I still remember how good I felt about even coming close to my Moms cooking.
My cooking tragedies
The Thanksgiving dinner I and my sister cooked in 1991 was the last dinner we would be cooking for my Mom and Dad. Mom passed away the next day. But after all these years, it somehow makes Thanksgiving even more memorable for me. I use so many of her recipes and tricks she taught me when I was just starting out.

Grilled Zucchini II
My husband and I have been doing our yellow squash and zucchini like this for quite a while. We cut ours lengthwise, place in a ziplock bag with zesty Italian dressing for about half hour, then grill, when almost done, we sprinkle with parm cheese, salt and pepper. Easy, fast and delicious.

Long Island Iced Tea
I was a bartender for many years, and the review "Chef daddy of 4" added is the only way I have ever made them.
