Pumpkin Funnel Cakes

Reviewed: Oct. 22, 2007
Wow, Linda, these are AWESOME!!!! My hubby loved them !(and for him to like a bread based dessert is just this side short of a mircale!) It did take a little practice to squirt the cake batter across the oil (I used a plastic zip lock with the corner cut on one end). I burned the first cake, but the 2nd and 3rd ones were perfect! We dusted with lots of pwrd sugar & I shared with my in-laws. Thanks!!!! See posted pics (: (: (: (: (:

Italian Grilled Cheese Sandwiches

Reviewed: Oct. 17, 2007
My 8 year old loved these! Thanks for the new twist on grilled cheese! PS Make mine on the griddle instead of in the oven. I even added a little Parmesan cheese to mine and it was delish (:

Broiled Tilapia Parmesan

Reviewed: Oct. 14, 2007
This recipe is hard for me to rate. My husband did not like it. I thought it was very good, wonderful flavor, and I loved the ease of preparation (very gourmet taste but simple ingred. & super easy to put together!). I probably won't make it again since I would be the only one eating it, but thanks for letting me try something different! PS Followed Shannon(:'s advice and used celery seed instead of celery salt, the only change I made to this recipe.

Dog Treats II

Reviewed: Oct. 6, 2007
My 8year old wanted to make puppy treats this morning and he picked out this recipe. I made lots of changes, the main one being that I realized I was out of oatmeal and so I chopped up some hotdogs and added them to the dough. Also, I think the liquid is off in this recipe...I ended up adding a little milk to make the dough come together. Didn't add the sugar on top as our dogs are kind of chunky and don't need the extra calories, LOL!

Strawnana Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 4, 2007
This bread was good but I am not sure if it was great. I am still trying to decide if I like it! The flavors are really complex---strawberries, bananas, spice, orange zest. I used my sugar coated pecans instead of walnuts (I still have alot of those left, LOL). I guess the flavor that stands out most to me is the strawberries. And I am still undecided if I like warm strawberries...thanks for letting me try something different and helping me get rid of my over-ripe bananas, strawberries and those darned sugar coated pecan pieces!!! I am taking to school tomorrow and leaving in the workroom and I am sure it will get eaten! (: (: (:

Sugar Coated Pecans

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2007
My husband was supposed to get me pecan halves and he came back from the store with pieces. I used them anyway and added them to the chocolate scotcheroos I was making. I still have alot leftover so I froze some and gave some to my FIL (who really liked them). Next time I will try with the pecan halves (though pecans are REALLY expensive---8 dollars for a lb. bag. I miss where I used to live---we could go out and pick them up for free, except them I had to crack and hull them, lots of work, LOL) Thanks so much for the post!

Chocolate Scotcheroos

Reviewed: Sep. 28, 2007
I love this recipe! Have made several times. I have made changes based on my lazy cooking ethics: I melt the chips & added the syrup & sugar (all in one pan). I wait for this to boil, then add the peanut butter, take off the heat & add the cereal. I also added pecans this time around (1 cup of sugar coated pecan pieces, recipe from this site), and used only 5 cups of cereal. Reduced sugar to 1/2 a cup also. Love, love, love this recipe! Thanks so much for the post! PS Made this time around for a teacher luncheon. Really well-received & easy to transport!

Sour Cream Fan Rolls

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2007
These were really good and easy to make. I halved the recipe and it made 12 rolls (2 muffin tins worth). My only critique would be that the recipe says the prep time is 30 min. and there is actually 1 hour & 20 min. of rise time. I liked these rolls alot, reminded me of the traditional Thanksgiving dinner rolls. I am planning on making them for Thanksgiving. Thanks for the post!

Chocolate Chocolate Milkshake

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2007
I just made this for a mid-day snack---wow! It is very chocolate-y! I used Whoopers candies. Reminded me of the Frosties we used to get at Wendy's. Could easily be varied by whatever chocolate candy you use. Genius idea to add chocolate candy to the traditional milkshake! Thanks Austin!

Strawberry Fritters with Chocolate Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2007
I made these for my in-laws to top off our appetizer dinner. My FIL raved about them and even added whipped cream. I liked them, they reminded me of fair food. Kind of like a funnel cake coating with a strawberry inside. Making them, I halved the strawberries after cutting the tops off. The batter to coat them was VERY thick. I finally just got my hands in there and got messy trying to coat the strawberries, then just dropped blobs of batter with strawberry into the hot oil. Eating them, I wasn't sure if I liked the warm strawberry or not...it is kind of a taste sensation! I loved the chocolate sauce and pwdrd sugar and whipped cream, all of that went together wonderfully with the coating...I am just not sure if I like a warm strawberry, LOL! But 5 stars for such an original and fun recipe to make, thanks so much Austin! I can't wait to make more of your recipes! ~Tan~

Cream Cheese Won Tons

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2007
I have used this recipe several times with great success! I don't use the clams in the filling, just the cr. cheese and spices. I also bake at 350 for 15-20 instead of frying in oil. I love to crimp the tops and make the flower shape like you get in Chinese restaurants. Thanks for the post!

Tiny Chicken Turnovers

Reviewed: Sep. 16, 2007
I did not think this recipe was going to work for me. It was so messy. The dough was sticky and wouldn't fold over the chicken. I finally put the chicken on the circle and added another circle to the top and pinched all around w/ a fork. Then I didn't think they looked very appetizing. But I served them anyway and tried one myself. The dough has this amazing buttery crispiness---it was delightful. And the chicken was well spiced, a wonderful compliment to the dough. If I could just get them to look good, this would be a 5 star recipe! I am giving this 5 stars because I want to try again. The taste is truly amazing!

Meatball Grinders with a Yummy Sauce

Reviewed: Sep. 9, 2007
This was excellent! I made these to go with my son's pirate-themed birthday party (we called them 'cannon ball sandwiches, LOL). My in-laws thought they were very good, and my MIL even took the leftovers and made spaghetti. I did them in the crock pot on low for about 5 hours, and I added an extra bag of meatballs to the sauce because some reviewers had mentioned this made a lot of sauce. Also, I could only find an 18-oz jar of apple jelly so I used a little less than half. I didn't think that the sauce was too sweet, but a perfect balence of sweet/tangy. Thanks for the post! We enjoyed this very much!

Raspberry Banana Bread

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2007
Update: took this bread to school and left it in the teacher's workroom. It was gone by lunchtime, so I guess everyone liked it! Our counselor wanted the recipe. So I am bumping it up a star (: Original review: I liked the tangy banana/raspberry combo, but my 8yo did not. I switched the oil & water amounts---used 1/2 cup of water & 1/3 of a cup of oil (I thought 1/2 cup of oil might be a little much). I thought it was a really nice bread, would be great with some afternoon tea! Thanks for the post! PS Did not add the walnuts to this, personal preference.

Hard Do Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 26, 2007
I don't really have any experience with this type of bread like some of the other reviewers. I have never had it in a restaurant, or even heard of it. My older son picked it out for us to make because he liked the name, LOL. It is really just a yeast bread that is a tiny bit sweet with a very thick, almost tough crust. I guess that is how it is supposed to be...anyway, we liked it alot! I hope my pic does it justice, like I said, I have never had or seen this type of bread. We just followed the recipe and it produced a nice, simple white loaf of bread! Thanks for the post, we enjoyed!

Blue Cheese, Avocado, and Grape Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 21, 2007
THanks for all the good reviews! I came home from school starved one day and my husband was making dinner. He said 'Go ahead and fix you a salad' and I just started adding ingredients and came up with this really good combo. But I love blue cheese and if you aren't a blue cheese lover, it might not be your thing. Also, I have always added fruit to my salads for some reason---I love the pineapple or canned peaches and Ranch combo, and that might be an aquired taste, too. (:

Grandma's Onion Rings (Southern Style)

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2007
I have used this recipe before and loved it! We get pre-sliced raw onions from a local BBQ place, and we never eat them, so I have started using them to make onion rings (no cutting the onion--what could be better???). I do add a sprinkling of Italian bread crumbs to the batter, but otherwise follow the recipe. Thanks so much for the post! Grandma + Southern = perfection! (: (: (:

Chicken Bouillon Rice

Reviewed: Aug. 18, 2007
I added salt and butter to mine. Actually, this is pretty close to the way I make rice (adding salt and butter really helps!), and I also like to add some frozen veggies to it, makes for a nice time-saver sidedish.
