White Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
I used milk chocolate chips in these instead of the white. These were the first cookies on my Christmas cookie trays. Both my husband and boys really liked them! 5 stars! Merry Christmas (:

Orange Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 16, 2007
One word: DELICIOUS!!!! I took someone else's advice and used a bundt cake coated with Crisco and it turned out really good. Nice presenation. Used slices in my annual cookie trays. Also, I accidently added the 2/3 cup of sugar to the mix and then I realized that was supposed to be part of the glaze. But it turned out really tasty, and no one complained about it being too sweet. I also used an orange cake mix.

Mom's Baking Powder Biscuits

Very good! This made a perfect dough. Very easy to work with and the taste was perfection! Thanks! PS reduced salt to 1/2 tsp. and used margarine instead of shortening.

Mushroom Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 7, 2007
I loved, loved, loved this! I only used 1/2 pkg of puff pastry, just folded the four corners over the filling. I subbed sour cream & a splash of reg. milk for the heavy cream. I sauteed the onions with the mushrooms but removed them since I only wanted the onion flavor. I love mushrooms and this was a great recipe! Thanks!

Quick and Easy Dip

Reviewed: Dec. 4, 2007
Update: This has become the 'cast party' dip. My contest cast asked, well, begged me to make this again when our Little Women production closed. Added taco seasoning to the beans and the shredded cheese this time. Did not bake it but chilled in the frig. Original review: I needed something quick & easy for a cast party today. I had all of these ingredients. I thought it was a bit bland (next time I might add taco seasoning to the beans as others suggested) but my cast & crew thought it was really good! Really good, though, for spur-of-the-moment dip! PS Used a pie plate and worked really well!

Tuna Coney Dogs

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I went a little off recipe with this one. I don't like onions or green peppers, so I didn't add those. I like olives but didn't have any so I left those out, too. But this is a great recipe for customizing to your personal taste! I think you could make the tuna how you like it, then make the coneys. In fact, I think this is so great, I am passing this to a friend who has a Boy Scout's troop. She is always looking for recipes and I think this would be a perfect camping recipe! Great for kids! Thanks so much for the post!

Rosemary Herb Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
Wonderful bread! I made a foccacia bread & cut into chunks to use for a variety of dips for our appetizer table. I followed another reviewer's advice about adding olive oil and a bit of water but otherwise followed the recipe (except I didn't make with a machine, made by hand). Very savory and delicious, will make again! Thanks!

Double Layer Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
I had printed out this recipe & my husband found this exact recipe in a cooking magazine I had and asked me to make it. The pumpkin topping was a bit runny. This pie got lost in all of the pies we made and wasn't the best. Thanks for letting me try something different for our holiday table.

Irresistible Pecan Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2007
With all the sugars in this pie, just looking at it could make you a diabetic! I am glad I only make these pies once a year! With that said, it was a very, very, very good pecan pie. One of the best I have had/made. 5 stars. PS Used my own crust, did not use crust recipe.

Seven Layer Gelatin Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
Update: I really liked the taste of this, it was even better the 2nd and 3rd day as a leftover! Next time I will use less layers, and more red jellos (ie strawberry, raspberry, cherry) because I liked those the best in this, and they look the prettiest, IMO. Original review: This is very time consuming. I tried to hurry the process and merged the last 3 layers into one large one. Made in a trifle bowl to show the colors. Will update on taste...

Blue Cheese Dip II

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
Update: I have made this dip almost every holiday for my FIL, Father's Day also of course! This recipe has become one of my 'go to' recipes. This time I modified a bit. Couldn't get to the store so I used 1/2 a bottle of blue cheese dressing in lieu of the chucks and I didn't add the mayo. Turned out really good! Original review: I love blue cheese, and so does my FIL. I made this for him for tomorrow for an appetizer. I tasted-tested it and I thought it was really good! I am serving with blue corn chips. Did not add the green onions, subbed a pinch of onion pwdr. Sprinkled with garlic bread seasoning instead of garlic salt.

Thanksgiving Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
This was so delicious! I made it for tomorrow but my husband got into it. He is not a bread eater so for him to say it was good is quite a compliment! I made a few changes: 1/4 c. oil, 1/4 c. milk, added overipe bananas to the mix, and used only 1 egg. Used 1/2 c. pumpkin. We really liked the taste of the cranberries in this!

Saltine Toffee Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 21, 2007
I thought these were very unique, but I don't think my family liked them! They were polite but I caught 'the look' (as in 'what did she made now??'). I loved the ease of making these! I didn't spread the chocolate chips but left them whole.

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2007
Wow! The sauce for these was AWESOME!!! I cheated a little and used pre-breaded frozen fish. I also traded some of the cayenne pepper for Old Bay seasoning, and I used a lemon instead of a lime. Oh, and I used sour cream instead of plain yogurt. But I loved these! They were soooooo good! I wanted to try them with the actual fish recipe next! Yum, yum, yum!

New England Dinner

Reviewed: Nov. 11, 2007
I liked this one-pot dinner---starch, veggie, & meat all in one. However, it was very, very bland...even sprinkled liberally with my husband's spice mixture! Basic salt & pepper also helped alot! But that being said, it is one of those dishes that can easily be customized to taste, spices, ingredients. I subbed sliced carrots for the cabbage because I didn't want to run to the store & had carrots on hand. I will make this again with cabbage. (I know, I know, change a major ingred. in the recipe and still rate it...as is it is probably a 3 star recipe but I bumped it to 4 because of my subsitition). PS Also added more water than called for (about a cup more)and I cooked on 350 for about an hour. I added the sausage in the last 30 min. so that it wouldn't be too dry or burn.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2007
Taste update: Very, very good! This rivals my hubby's cheesecake (: Original review: This was an ok recipe, but I followed the instructions & it still cracked badly on top. I did trade 1/4 cup of the milk for coffee, and I topped with mocha chocolate chip cookie crumbies (thanks, Amy!). Will update on taste and probably bump up a star. Having this for my niece's bday get together tomorrow.
