Lemon Icing

Reviewed: Jan. 28, 2008
I halved this to use with a lemon box mix cake. It was really sweet! I mean REALLY sweet! It didn't spread too well, either, as it was really thick.

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
One of my very best friends gave me an almost identical recipe for her Grandmother Minnie's cinnamon rolls. I made both hers and this one, and I like her recipe & directions a tiny bit better. Also, my husband likes the cream cheese icing better than the pure sugar based. Thanks for posting, this is a really great recipe and loved by many (as I can see all the 5 star reviews!)

Plum Dumplings

Reviewed: Jan. 27, 2008
I am addicted to these ever since I tried Linda's plum dumplings on this site. I liked Linda's recipe a little bit better, thanks for letting me try a different recipe for this German/Austrian classic dessert. Didn't add the sauce to these, just sprinkled with pwrd sugar and crushed honey pretzels.

Sage Cornmeal Biscuits

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
I couldn't decide between cornbread and biscuits so I searched for a cornmeal biscuit. These were really good, paired with chicken and dumplings, excellent! Used butter instead of shortening.

Fried Mozzarella Cheese Sticks

Reviewed: Jan. 26, 2008
My husband hated these. I didn't think they were so bad, but its more work than I wanted to put into something that is so unappreciated. He likes his Farm Rich cheese stick out of the freezer section, I think I will stick with those. Thanks for letting me try! PS These are done really fast, I kept turning them until they were brown. But if you wait too long (even a second), the coating will pop off the cheese.

Colleen's Potato Crescent Rolls

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
These are rising as I type this. I was going to make a suggestion...use the water you boil the potatoes in for the water in the dough. While the potatoes are cooling, pour the water into a glass measuring cup and let it cool. I do this all the time when I am making my potato water bread. Its a very frugal way to get more flavor into the bread. And you are using something that would normally go down the sink! Will update on taste...

Date Nut Loaf Cake

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
I was cleaning out the freezer and found 1/2 a box of dates and 1/2 pkg. of pecans. Got on here and searched for a date nut loaf and this one was the recipe I decided on. I was going to take this to the school tomorrow and put it in the teacher's lounge but I just had to get into it. I was so suprised---it is amazing! I have eaten 1/2 the loaf already. I can't really taste the dates, its more of a nut loaf, but maybe that is because I subbed pecans for walnuts. But still---amazing! Very sweet and moist! Had with several afternoon cups of tea (: Thanks for the post!

Tia and David's Deep Fried Tortellini

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2008
Had these as appetizers for the GBPackers game. I used bread crumbs and cornmeal. Mine were kind of crunchy, I expected them to be chewy (they kind of look like calamari!). Very good with red sauce! I also served with Ranch but liked the red sauce better. My FIL did not like them, but he didn't try them with red sauce ! (:

Banana Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2008
This bread is pretty amazing considering it has no eggs or milk, basically no liquid of any kind! That made me nervous. But it turned out very nice, very moist, with a great banana taste. I used 6 small bananas that were left over from Thanksgiving, that were almost liquid in form, maybe that helped....who knows, it was really, really good! Thanks! PS Made this in my bread machine on the quick bread/cake setting.

Yeast-Free Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 10, 2008
This gives new meaning to the term 'soda bread'. I thought I had really messed it up (didn't have self-rising flour, used 2 tsps. baking powder and 1/2 tsp. salt added to reg. flour, plus I baked in a pie plate), but the flavor was really, really good! I was so surprised at the taste. Kind of chewy and slightly sweet (I used 7-Up and only 2 tablespoons of sugar). There is something magical about this strange combination, but it works!

Grandma Ople's Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I have made this pie before and I always forget to rate it! I usually make an apple pie for New Year's (I don't know why, weird tradition I guess!)and have used this apple pie recipe for the last several years. I took a photo this time...used a Texas cookie cutter to make the vent in the top crust instead of doing the lattice. Also added a little cinnamon, nutmeg, and sugar. Happy 2008! (: (: (:

Peasant Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I have made this bread for New Year's Day for about 3 years now. This year was the first time it fell in my bread machine---the top caved in! I hope that is not bad luck! I think it is my new bread machine. I have made 3 different loaves in it and all of the tops have fallen. Anyone have any suggestions/solution for this problem? This is a really good loaf, I agree it tastes like French bread. Very dense, but yummy. I used the French bread cycle on my machine as others suggested.

Grandma's Cracker Dressing

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2008
I opted not to add the celery and onions and instead used celery salt & onion pwdr. I think I got too much seasoning overall because with a tsp. of black pepper, it was spicy! If I make again, I would definitely saute the onions and celery before adding to the cracker mixture (as previous reviewer noted). Thanks for a different take on dressing/stuffing!

Cheddar Cheese Bread

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2007
Very nice taste but the loaf's top fell in my machine. I am unsure it is my bread machine, since this is the second loaf that has fallen in my new machine. Very tender, probably not good for sandwiches and hard to slice, but great with lots of butter.

Orange Slice Cookies II

Reviewed: Dec. 31, 2007
Update: My son came home and declared these the best cookies ever, so I will have bump up my rating. Very 'kid-friendly'! He loved them. Original review: I am undecided about these cookies. Very pretty--kind of reminded me of an unspiced snickerdoodle (nicely cracked on top). But I am not sure about the taste. Maybe I didn't cut my orange slices up as small as they should have been, because the orange bits sat there like lumps and biting into them inside the cookie kind of clamped my jaws together.

Mark's English Sausage Rolls

Reviewed: Dec. 26, 2007
I printed this out for my son's social studies class (they were studying England and needed some authentic recipes). I ended up making it because it looked really easy and I had some puffed pastry to use. I have to say that I wasn't impressed...I think it is something you have to grow up with to like & enjoy. Also, my rolls could use alot of work to look pretty! It would take some practice to perfect but I don't think I will attempt again. Thanks for letting me try something different!

Fabulous French Loaves

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2007
I halved this recipe and made in my bread maker. The inside was wonderful---great flavor, great texture! My only complaint might be that the crust was really, really tough. But that could be my bread maker, and the recipe wasn't meant for a bread machine so I have to be fair and give 5 stars.

Chocolate Cheese Candy

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2007
This recipe is similar to Paula Deen's and I have her cookbook, I think with the except of the choc. chips it is the same as hers. Maybe I did something wrong but I did not like this. My husband, who doesn't know it has velveeta in it, didn't like it either. It has a weird consistency and wasn't as sweet as traditional fudge. Sorry, I think I will stick with the traditional. I didn't even take a pic, just threw it in the trash ): Very disappointed, I don't see how so many people have raved about fudge with processed cheese in it.
