I am a wife and mommy to four children. I have been cooking forever. I learned how to make cakes from scratch by watching my mom when I was little. So when I was old enough to not burn the house down, I would bake cakes in the morning before school. Mom had already left for work and since I walked, I had more than enough time. So me and my sisters would have a special treat from time to time.
My favorite things to cook
I love making sweets. Cookies, cakes, pies whatever. You name it and I will try it. I especially love excuses to bake. When my daughters basketball team wins a game, I reward everyone by baking cookies and bringing them the following week. Parents and coaches started asking for them also. Makes me feel good also. FOOTBALL THIS YEAR
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern foods are our tradition, big family dinners around the holidays. Last year, me and hubby did Thanksgiving at our house. Hardly any leftovers. But we now try to introduce our families to other foods that we have grown to love. So we are breaking out of tradition and trying to start our own based on the foods we like. Italian is very big in our home.
My cooking triumphs
My grandmother used to make a Crisco Pound Cake which I loved. Asked mother for the recipe and couldn't get it quite right, but neither could she though. I finally got it right, just like grandma used to make and now everybody asks me to make them one.
My cooking tragedies
Trying to make homemade cornbread on Thanksgiving for me and my sisters. It was for cornbread dressing. Why did I pick a holiday to experiment is beyond me. It turned out terrible and we ended up throwing it out. Mom came to save us though. Guess she just had a feeling.
