About this Cook
My husband and I both enjoy cooking, me inside and him outside. As the inside cook, I like traditional old fashioned favorites, especially in the winter when cooking equals cozy to me, like chili, beef vegetable soup, pot roast, roasted chicken and dressing, banana pudding, cakes and pies. Yummy! For the outside cook, I help a little but my husband does the hard work fixing beef brisket, ribs, steaks, burgers and dogs, beercan chicken, sausages, roasted cheese stuffed home grown peppers of all kinds and sizes, corn on the cob, potatoes, onions, squash, and various other meats and vegetables. We enjoy trying great recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
We always had a big Thanksgiving dinner for the whole family all the time I was growing up. Just this past Thanksgiving, I enjoyed preparing a big Thanksgiving meal for several members of my family. I really enjoyed the ritual of preparing the meal for a crowd, the hustle to get it on the table all at the same time and the peace of sitting down and enjoying every bite and every spoken word. I'm already looking forward to doing it again and I sure hope that I can.
My cooking triumphs
My Thanksgiving turkey turned out as good as it ever has. We used the same recipe as the previous year. With this recipe you put butter soaked cheesecloth over the breast and wings and baste it with butter while it cooks. It really turns out juicy and tender.
My cooking tragedies
About 20 years ago I made some really bad chocolate chip cookies - I took them over to my sister's house so they could try them, too. I misread the measurement for salt - 1 tsp turned into 1 TBS. Not good - but very chewy.

One Bowl Chocolate Cake III
This is a great chocolate cake recipe. I made a 13x9 cake and topped it with homemade chocolate buttercream icing. The cake was tender, very moist and rich in flavor. It was easy to make and really good. I will make this again and again and will never buy a mix - this is too easy and so much better.

Banana Sour Cream Bread
I like this recipe. I made three big loaves of this and it is just great. I added toasted walnuts pieces and it turned out great. Took it to work to feed to the coworkers and they all loved it, too. Very moist and even better the next day.

Mom's Chocolate Chip Cookies
These turned out really good. The only variation that I made was to add nuts and mixed chocolate chips: toasted pecans bits - about 1 cup of those and a mixture of chips that I had in the freezer - milk, semi sweet, and mini semi sweet. The cookies cooked nicely and turned out fine. The consistency of the cookie is very tender and not chewy. I had no problems with the texture or taste. My husband said they were a bit sweet but he enjoyed them and said they were good, too. They were easy to make and tasty. I will make again.
