About this Cook
I'm a self-taught cook. I used to cook with my father when I was a child and learned some of the basics from him. I've always enjoyed baking, have gotten pretty good at it so I'm told, and I plan on going to culinary school to become a pastry chef.
My favorite things to cook
I'm a big dessert fan, so anything sweet. I can be pretty picky sometimes but I believe anything can taste good to anyone if it's cooked or prepared a certain way. Everyone's tastes are different. My father's family is Asian so I love asian food, more the authentic stir-fries and meat dishes than the canadian-chinese dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family has a pretty busy schedule, with my siblings and I between the ages of 20-25 we all have different schedules. Our only "family dinners" are major holidays or pure coincidence. So we love making roasts and pasta dinners when everyone is home or for Christmas and Thanksgiving I make dinner and a dessert while everyone else cleans up and sets the table. I like the memories people have of food, so I make Coconut cream pie for my mother because it reminds her of her childhood and eating it with her father (who passed away before I was born). Or chicken soup that reminds friends of what their grandmother used to make.
My cooking triumphs
I make a mean chocolate brownie, haha, and I've been using the same chocolate chip cookie recpie for 12 years. I make them to take to work and they're gone in a matter of minutes. I also make a mean lasagna and mannicotti.
My cooking tragedies
My first time making brownies from scratch resulted in what I call brownie fondue. The pan was too small and deep, so the sides cooked before the inside did. Have to say as a brownie recipe it was a disaster... but it was a delicious make-shift chocolate "fondue".

Roast Sticky Chicken-Rotisserie Style
This is the BEST roast chicken recipe I have tried yet! My only change is to reduce the salt, I use about 1-2 teaspoons, I found 4 too salty. I love the chicken you can get at rotisserie restaurants but it can get pretty expensive. I make this in bulk on a weekend, separate the meat from the bones (bones I use for homemade stock), and put the meat into freezer bags to pull out on a weeknight when I need it. It makes delicious sandwiches and wraps. My favorite way is to fry the chicken in a little bit of olive oil until slightly crispy, top it with a little bit of garlic mayonnaise (minced garlic mixed into plain mayonnaise) and make a pita wrap out of it. Mimics a middle eastern sandwich I really like from a restaurant I went to once.

Really Creamy Fettuccine Alfredo
This sauce was very good! I deviated from the recipe a bit by adding 3 cloves of crushed garlic, substituting heavy cream for the milk (I added roughly a cup of heavy cream as the sauce tasted a bit to tangy with that much cream cheese),1/2 tsp crushed black pepper and increasing the grated parmesan cheese to 1 cup. All in all Delicious!

Apple Strudel Muffins
I love this recipe! I've made this recipe exactly as it states so many times before and each time it turned out great! I've also added things to it such as adding 1/3 cup of oats to the flour and 1/3 cup of my sister's favorite flowery tea (Monk's Blend) along with 1/8 of a teaspoon of Chinese Five Spice powder and a few tablespoons of caramel ice cream topping. I also accidentally added the white sugar to the flour so I added an extra 1/4 cup of loosely packed brown sugar to the butter. In the end the muffins turned out great! You can't really taste the tea or the five spice powder but they give the muffins a little hint of something extra.
