About this Cook
I am a mother of 2 boys, 12 and 15. They both LOVE to eat, but are picky eaters! They tend to like the easy stuff, burgers, pizza etc., which kinda stinks for me, because I LOVE to try new recipes. When I find one that EVERYONE likes, it's a definite keeper. I am always on the hunt for those great recipes. Hence, the reason I love this site so much!! My husband is the type that will eat ANYTHING, and he's skinny....UGH!!! Lucky for me, I get to try a lot of things out on him.
My favorite things to cook
Easy but yummy recipes. Some I will eventually post! I love to make goodies for goody bags at Christmas time. Mostly fudge's and candies. My crockpot is my favorite thing in the kitchen. I haven't found a TON of recipes that rate up there in my opinion, but the few that I have are priceless to me. And I am always on the prowl for new ones. I pretty much like to cook ANYTHING that my family appreciates, because, after all, isn't that really why we do it?? : )
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother always cooked and baked. She had 6 children and was a homemaker (housewife in those days). Every day, when we came home from school their was always some yummy smell coming out of the kitchen. From spaghetti sauce cooking on the stove all day to cookies or whoopie pies baking, we always had a home cooked meal. On the weekends, mom got a break because dad would grill. He made the BEST Beef terriyaki and barbequed steak (I STILL can't figure out how he made the barbeque sauce stay on the steak!! Mine always "melts" or runs off!!!). Although I cook often, I don't do it everyday, because I do work. I wish I could transport my children back 30 years so they could live in my childhood for awhile!
My cooking triumphs
Everyone loves my cakes and candies! My biggest cooking triumphs are those recipes that I discover on this site or elsewhere that EVERYONE (even the picky ones) ask for over and over again! Rump Roast Au Jus (from this site), my dad's beef terriyaki, and my two sauce lasagna (got that one off of a spaghetti sauce jar which i plan on posting).
My cooking tragedies
Cookies that don't puff and flatten, uuuuuuuuugh! It's this darn oven!!! My mother's California Chicken when the sauce comes out too thin...:( Anything that costs a lot to make and doesn't taste good..."sniff, sniff"

Melt-In-Your-Mouth Short Ribs
This wasn't bad! I used boneless short ribs. Instead of using cond. french onion soup, I used beef bouillon in 2 cups water, and added dry onion soup mix. I added extra garlic and about 1/2 tsp onion powder. I also tossed in some baby portabella mushrooms at the start and toward the end added some sauteed onions. Served over mashed potatoes. One of my sons, my husband and my mom all went NUTS for it! The other son doesn't care for meat in a crock pot. But said it was tasty. I cooked mine about 7 hours on low and I thickened the sauce at the end.

Cranberry Gelatin Salad I
This recipe is FANTASTIC! I use sugar-free raspberry jello, I use the pineapple juice and boiling water combined to make 2 cups and I use whole canned cranberry sauce. I omit the nuts completely. I could eat a whole giant bowl of this by myself! My picky sons love it and my hubby and I fight over the left overs!!

Apple Crisp IV
This was pretty good. I halved everything and used an 8" square pan. Might not be a bad idea to spray the pan first. After I put the apples in I sprinkled them with cinnamon sugar. Might cut back a tad on the butter next time. Thanks for an easy throw together recipe! :)
