I have always enjoyed cooking. My mother was a great cook, but she didn't like trying new recipes as much as I did. She could never believe that I was cooking something brand new for guests. I am still the same way. I study this site every day, and am always printing out and trying recipes I find here. Now I have the joy of teaching my granddaughter to cook, and she is a great student. We have such fun together. I have some old favorites - mostly recipes given to me by friends at my bridal shower 46 years ago. I look forward to making my mother's sugar cookies every Christmas. These took me several years to perfect, and I later found out they were HER mother's recipe, and it also took her several years to get them right. My daughter-in-law has now mastered them also. Since I still work and have a very busy life I love using my slow cooker. This Saturday my granddaughter is looking forward to making bread, (the old-fashioned way) with me. As I mentioned before, the sugar cookies recipe which has been in the family for generations is my favorite. There's also a braided coffee ring that is wonderful at Christmas also. Every St. Patrick's Day we turn Irish for the day and enjoy a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner. I use a green tablecloth, and usually make everyone wear green. The thing that I make best is lasagne. It is easy too because I use a recipe that doesn't require the noodles to be cooked first. I used to make bread from scratch (without a bread machine) all the time when my children were in school. They soon learned they could trade their sandwiches for anything they liked - even the teachers would trade with them.
