About this Cook
I have been bitten by the cooking/baking/canning bug!! I have always been able to cook but not that great(to me). I started this past summer looking at a plum tree that was over loaded with fruit. I knew I could not let all that fruit go to waste so I made plum jelly for the first time in my life. Turned out pretty good so when the wild blackberries started coming in on my farm, again I could not let them go to waste. I made blackberry jelly(without seeds do not like the seeds) and got daring and mixed plum/blackberry juice to make plum/blackberry jelly which turned out better than any other except for my peach jelly(I love peach anything). Then the peaches, peas, green beans and the rest is history. I have no more room in my freezer so I bought a pressure canner. I have always been afraid of these. I got daring again and pressure canned beans, peas,& tomato sauce. I do get a little miffed at some of the reviews. If you change a recipe it is unfair to rate it badly because it is not t
My favorite things to cook
I love to try new and different recipes. My tastes are not predictable. That is why I love allrecipes so much. There is such variety. I just go through the recipes some days and pick something out to cook. I thank all of you who contribute recipes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I am from a very poor, Southern background. My grandparents and parents cooked very basic Southern recipes. I must say that one of my favorite comfort meals is: fried pork chops, dried white beans, rice, and pickled beets.
My cooking triumphs
I was utterly shocked how easy it was to can. It just takes enormous amounts of time, patience(cutting, chopping, cooking down), and standing.
My cooking tragedies
One of my batches of plum jelly turned out more like glue. I made a mistake of using liquid pectin on a batch. It is not a total waste but very unspreadable. I will use it for something. Just do not know what right now. Maybe a glaze. Another batch did not gel so we used it for syrup!

Pecan Sandies
These are absolutely the easiest to make and best tasting cookie. I make these several times a year and always to rave reviews. The only change I have ever made to this recipe is to toast the whole pecans before chopping them. Toasting the pecans makes these irresistable!!!
