We are "empty nesters" with two grown children and I am still learning to cook for just two people - it's hard! We have several dogs, so I still like quick and easy (try cooking with 5 dogs underfoot!).
My favorite things to cook
Anything "new" - I love trying new recipes (sometimes to my husband's dismay)! Probably my real favorite is making large "traditional" meals - Thanksgiving, etc. - where I have to plan ahead. So long as I have the time! ;)
My favorite family cooking traditions
One side of my family is from Germany, the other from Sweden. So, I have LOTS of recipes that have been handed down. Probably my favorites are my paternal great-grandmother's Swedish "breakfast bread" and my maternal grandmother's Thanksgiving meat stuffing - yum!
My cooking triumphs
Most things I cook turn out exceptionally well. I tend to improvise a lot since my husband is lactose intollerant! Finding substitutes for things he cannot have (and still taste good!) are my finest triumphs!
My cooking tragedies
Early on, my biggest tradegy was learning to cook chicken long enough but not dry it out - I can't tell you how many raw chicken breasts made it to the table! :) Also - anything with homemade dough has been a challenge. Usually, I don't give it enough time to rise and I do not have all the "equipment" so I have to knead by hand (yuck!).
