I've been married to a handsome, big-hearted man for over 45 years. We are blessed with 4 children, 6 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
My favorite things to cook
I have been cooking all holiday dinners for many years, but have scaled it down to Thanksgiving, a few birthdays and get-togethers.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Getting together with my family for any reason.
My cooking triumphs
I probably do best at baking. I like to experiment, sometimes it works and sometimes it don't. I can't talk and cook at the same time. I have a habit of leaving ingredients out or adding new ones. I don't get excited if something doesn't turn out the way the recipe says. I just turn it into something else, and when they ask me what it is, I make up a name.
My cooking tragedies
I've had many in the 40-plus years that I have cooked. The worst humiliation may be bisquits. It took me nearly 15 years to learn to make bisquits from scratch. You could build houses with them, or they disintegrated in your hand. I had the gravy down pretty quick, but canned bisquits with homemade gravy! My kids were practically grown before I got it. Everybody gave me tips. A friend finally told me "Go get a bag of Martha White Self-Rising Flour and follow the directions". I can make them just great now, but I usually buy them from the freezer. I was just born too soon.
