I used to cook with my mom alot when I was younger. My specialty at the time was Bologna sanwiches. The secret was putting mayonase on BOTH pieces of bread lol. I had several other recipes that I tried and liked back then too. But I kinda stopped cooking anything beyond chicken nuggets and ramen for a while. Now my girlfriend and I are trying to limit eating out, so that we can save a little money and eat better and all that. She is pescaterian so we are trying to find new things that we both like and have no critters in them.
My favorite things to cook
I love roasting garlic and making garlic bread. I havent done that in a long time but everybody that has tried it the way I make it raves. I also have a lemon chicken pasta that I love making, I'm trying to figure out the best way to make it something my girlfriend will eat since she wont eat chicken, once I do I might even submit the recipe if its decent.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Though I havent taken part in the cooking part of this one, Christmas is my favorite. My family always does things that dont take preperation on Christmas so we can all relax and just enjoy our new stuff. So dinner is things like frozen eggrolls and pizza bites and stuff... But for brunch/breakfast we always have a breakfast chicken strata. Its something my mom can prepare the day before and my dad just has to put in the oven the next morning. Its one of my favorite things. I know we had alot when my grandma was still alive... and we have a couple others still... but the christmas strata is my favorite.
My cooking triumphs
I've made my own recipe for a Spinich Artichoke dip. Also completely rewrote a recipe for enchiladas. Both turned out great. I'm very excited that I am learning to think of changes I want to make to a recipe and they turn out really tasty.
My cooking tragedies
Here a couple years ago I had a great idea for a recipe. I still may retry it at some point but anyway, it was around easter and I got this idea to try and make a nest out of hashbrowns and have some boiled eggs sitting in the nest. It really didnt work at all. It was my first attempt at making hashbrowns from scratch and it just ended up a pile of mush. I still think it might be cool to try but I'd have to make alot of changes.
