I'm 43 and began cooking through the
4-H program when I was 8 years old. "You Learn to Bake" was the first project I ever took and I learned to make coffee cake. I was hooked. I enjoy spending time with my family and friends and cooking for them. I feel that my time in the kitchen is relaxing and creative.
My favorite things to cook
A few requested recipes are Chicken Enchiladas Suiza, Tom Ka Guy, Red Curry Chicken, and all types of soup and stews. My husband recently bought a new cookbook for me and we have been experimenting.
My favorite family cooking traditions
When I was growing up my mother made cut out cookies for Christmas that we iced together. I have continued this tradition with my own (and step)children, who all love rolling out the dough, stealing swipes of the uncooked dough while I'm not looking, and frosting the cookies together. I also enjoyed spending time with my grandmother and sharing recipes. When she passed away the only things that I really wanted were her cookbooks. I have 2 that she used so much the covers are missing, wrote notes in, and contributed to for the Ladies Aid at her church.
My cooking triumphs
I enjoy cooking for my family and friends, almost everything I attempt gets good reviews. Everyone might like it, but I always want it to be outstanding. I'm my worst critic!
My cooking tragedies
Chinese Meatballs. About 9 years ago I spent an entire day making these from scratch and they tasted like sawdust! My girlfriend was over for dinner and eats everything I make, but we both threw this away.
