Marinated Spicy Pork Chops

Reviewed: Dec. 15, 2009
I modified the recipe as suggested to reduce the soy sauce- I used 1/4c low sodium (ie low flavor) soy sauce and a few Tbps regular. The rest I kept the same except adding a teaspoon of chili powder. I'd say they came out with a pleasant kick but not overly spicy. No one flavor dominated and they all worked well together, so I'd make it again with the soy sauce reduction and with or without the chili powder.

Mall Pretzels

Very tasty, although as written the pretzels were incredibly large; I made them about 1/3 the size. Quick and easy, too.

Donna's Chocolate Zucchini Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 13, 2009
Good bread, I think I slightly increased the amount of zucchini, and it's definately not dry. It is very stuck to the pans, though, and I did grease them; parchment paper may work better. My chocolate solidified into little pieces, so I have not got nice chocolately looking bread, but it's still tasty.

Singaporean Tender Pork Spare Ribs

Reviewed: Feb. 20, 2009
Wonderful. I admit I was rather dubious about the large quantity of spices (note for the reviewer who gave 1 star, a stick of cinnamon is usually 2-3 inches long), but it came out great. I was short on star anise so I added a tsp of five spice powder, and I also added the grated zest of an orange to the marinade and used beef broth instead of water. Everyone raved! It's great there's such a relatively fast spare rib recipe!

Baingan Bharta (Eggplant Curry)

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2008
I'm always looking for a way to make eggplant not taste like eggplant, and this was excellent for that. Pretty easy, too. In the future I may experiment with adding more spices.

Roasted Pork Shoulder with Pomegranate Sauce

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2008
Easy, looks great, but for my roast the flavor of the pomegranate did not really sink in very far. Still tasty, but I whish more of the pomegranate taste got further in the roast.

Roasted Tomatillo and Garlic Salsa

Reviewed: Sep. 12, 2008
Made as the recipe states, and it was amazing over chicken breast. Tastes like summer, with just the right amount of heat. I did not de-seed the jalapenos or tomatillos, just tossed them in the blender after a rough shop, and did not need to add water.

Easy Indian Style Okra

Reviewed: Aug. 14, 2008
Easy and tasty. I followed others' advice and soaked the okra in vinegar for 20 minutes (all the time I had). It was still slightly slimy, so I definately don't want to know how bad it would have been without the vinegar soak.

Pumpkin Pecan Pie I

Reviewed: Nov. 17, 2007
Delicious. The pumpkin helps the pecan pie set up nicely, so it's not runny. Simple to make. Highly recommended. No alterations needed.

French Herb Bread

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2007
Tasty; I used the chopped onions and thyme rather than parsley, and liked the texture of the onions. I did not like the softened crust from brushing with butter after baking, will skip that step next time.

No Bake Chocolate Oat Bars

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2007
Pretty good and dead easy, but I'm confused by the rave reviews. I would not serve these to guests or as christmas cookies, but are good to have in the fridge for a chocolate craving. They were pretty plain and the oat mixture was sticky and got all over your hands.

English Saffron Bread

Reviewed: Jun. 22, 2006
My one problem was that the dough was too moist, I had to add about 3 cups of flour to get it to knead. I believe this was partly due to intense heat and humidity, but next time I'll be more conservative on the liquid until I see how it comes together. I used 1 tsp saffron, but the flavor and color was not as strong as I would have liked. Also, the bread came out HUGE- about 1.5'x2.5'! The texture is challa-like, and great flavor.

Bread of Life

Reviewed: Jun. 1, 2006
From now on I will read the reviews. This recipie is almost worthless. The dough is hard to work with, and I would change the recipe to halve the yeast and anise, and drop the cooking temp to 350 after 10 minutes, and take the loaves out after 30 minutes. I'm not sure how the ratings given add up to the 4 stars I see displayed beside this recipe.
