About this Cook
I'm married to my best friend & the mother of two grown sons, one of whom lives in New Orleans, where we love to visit. I have always appreciated good food. My mother and aunts were excellent cooks, and I try to emulate them.
My favorite things to cook
Things my husband & I can make together: brunches, weekend suppers, summertime grilling, entertaining. I love to make a pretty presentation.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is part Norwegian & we live in a Norwegian community, so a lot of those traditions are practiced here. It has particularly become a tradition at Christmas time to make those Norwegian favorites.
My cooking triumphs
I learned how to make Norwegian lefse as well as my grandmother used to. None of my aunts or cousins make it, so I am pretty proud that I can.
My cooking tragedies
The first year my husband and I were married, I made a chocolate layer cake for his birthday that fell and almost slid off the cake plate!

Pesto Sauce
You can triple the amount of basil called for here. Then the amount of the rest of the ingredients is about right. I used toasted almonds instead of the nuts called for here. This pesto is very tasty and can be used in so many ways. I like to keep it on hand in the freezer. It is so much better than store-bought!

Rich Chocolate Frosting
This definitely has a nice spreading consistencey and half a recipe makes plenty. But, it didn't look real chocolatety and I wasn't real fond of the taste. It reminded me of the sugary frostings that you get on a boughten bakery cake, and it certainly didn't look like the frosting pictured on the cake here. I probably won't make this again. I have better tasting chocolate frosting recipes.

Dark Chocolate Cake I
I was disappointed in this recipe and will not make it again. I didn't like the texture and it fell apart. I much prefer other chocolate cake recipes that use squares of chocolate and buttermilk in them.
