About this Cook
I'm a web-geek living in the Seattle area. I hate to cook, but love to eat. My wife can cook up a storm; I can cook eggs. And maybe steak. I've got two monkeys posing as boys for sons and a teenage step-daughter. I'm not much of an animal guy, but somehow ended up with a dog, three cats, and some creatures that resemble fish. I hate the rain, and yet I live in Seattle. Go figure.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook eggs. Mostly because I seem to be able to not screw it up (except for omelets). I cook a mean steak, which is good, as I would eat steak 3 meals a day if my wife would let me. I can also manage to not burn salad. Seriously though, when I cook, I like it to be an adventure. The stranger, the better. Why burn meatloaf when you can burn Moroccan Lamb with Shiraz Honey Sauce?
My favorite family cooking traditions
The holiday season is really fun for our extended family. We always get together at least on Turkey-day and Christmas and cook up as much food as we can eat, and then some. We've taken to doing a brined, roasted turkey and a big ol' chunk of beef tenderloin with a dry rub on the rotisserie. There's nothing quite like stuffing yourself with delicious turkey, worrying you're going to burst, then justifying another plate. Well... it IS tenderloin. :)
My cooking triumphs
One year, for my wife's birthday, I cooked up quite the menu. Cast iron seared beef tenderloin, marinated in chimichurri sauce with a jicama salsa. Yum. I can't remember what else I made because the steak was so good. Probably something I hate, like asparagus. That meal was pretty good - except for the asparagus that I've conveniently forgotten. Did I mention I hate asparagus? Anyway, it tasted pretty good. We paid for it later.
My cooking tragedies
So I decided I would make an omelet. Silly me. I got all fancy. Cut up a bunch of veggies. Fried up some bacon. Sauteed them all up. Dried off the moisture. Good stuff. I was a few minutes into cooking the omelet when I remembered that I didn't know how to cook an omelet. Yeah... smoke alarm. Good thing I used all the eggs to make the omelet. So, we had veggies and bacon. At least there was bacon.
