About this Cook
Since I got married a little over a year ago I have tried to learn to cook more things for my family (my husband and teenage daughter). They are a joy to cook for.
My favorite things to cook
Anything with shrimp. Such a forgiving animal.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I don't have any yet, but I'm looking forward to making some!
My cooking triumphs
I think the sausage and applesauce appetizer I made is my favorite at the moment. My cooking skills were legendarily bad because I wanted people to think that they were bad. That way you don't get asked to bring homemade things to parties. Just chips. It's a great way to avoid stress before a party. So the first time I decided to come out of the closet with my skills was at just such a party. My husband was nervous ("You're going to cook sausage with applesauce? And brown sugar? Eeeewww")I put it on the table and made my husband try it while I watched. His whole face changed. He couldn't believe his wife, Queen of the Chips, had made that dish. He went all over the place telling people to try the sausage. It made me very proud.
My cooking tragedies
Chicken Piccatta. I still can't find a recipe I like for it.

Catherine's Spicy Chicken Soup
I made this soup the other night and it was a huge hit! I used VERY hot salsa which gave it quite a kick. Perfect ...

Sweet Potato Cranberry Bake
I made this for my very first Thanksgiving dinner and it was a huge hit. I even loved the leftovers the following day. I made it the day before except for the topping and final baking. I did that part just before I took the turkey out of the oven. While the turkey set and then was carved, the sweet potato cranberry bake finished baking so that everything got to the table at the same time. I loved this recipe!!

Chicken Breasts with Balsamic Vinegar and Garlic
I was a little overpowered by the balsamic vinegar taste. Next time I'll cut that down a smidge.
